October 17, 1810: The origin of Oktoberfest is a horse race that the Munich Civil Guard organized on October 17, 1810, in honor of the wedding of Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria (1786-1868, King 1825-1848) to Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen (1792-1854). The later King Ludwig I had 9 children; his third-born son was Luitpold, the later Prince Regent.
Without the father, we wouldn't have the Wiesn today.
