1. WHAT IS EPI-PEVARYL P.V. 1 % SOLUTION AND WHAT IS IT USED FOR?

Epi-Pevaryl P.v. 1 % solution is a fungicidal medicine for external treatment of fungal infections of the skin and scalp (antimycotic). Epi-Pevaryl P.v. 1 % solution is used for pityriasis versicolor (Pityriasis versicolor). This is a skin disease caused by the yeast Pityrosporum orbiculare or ovale (formerly known as Malassezia furfur).

2. WHAT SHOULD YOU CONSIDER BEFORE USING EPI-PEVARYL P.V. 1 % SOLUTION?

Epi-Pevaryl P.v. 1 % solution must not be used if you are allergic to econazole nitrate or any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6.

Warnings and precautions

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Epi-Pevaryl P.v. 1 % solution. Epi-Pevaryl P.v. 1 % solution is for external use only and must not be taken orally. Epi-Pevaryl P.v. 1 % solution must not get into the eyes. If the solution does get into the eyes, rinse them with plenty of water. If eye irritation persists, see your doctor. If you notice any signs of a hypersensitivity reaction such as redness, itching, skin irritation or blistering, even on parts of the body that have not been treated, you must not use Epi-Pevaryl P.v. 1 % solution again.

Use of Epi-Pevaryl P.v. 1 %

solution together with other medicines

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using, have recently taken/used or intend to take/use any other medicines. Econazole applied to the skin is only absorbed by the body to a very small extent. Nevertheless, clinically relevant interactions with other medicines can occur. Patients taking oral blood thinners, e.g. (warfarin or acenocoumarol should only use Epi-Pevaryl P.v. 1 % solution after consulting their doctor. During and after treatment with Epi-Pevaryl P.v. 1 % solution, it may be necessary to adjust the dosage of oral blood thinners. The simultaneous use of other medicines on the skin is not recommended. Cosmetics can be used during the day, but not during the overnight treatment.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, or if you suspect you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine. During pregnancy and breast-feeding, you should only use Epi-Pevaryl P.v. 1 % solution after consulting your doctor. If your doctor assesses the benefit-risk ratio as positive, do not use Epi-Pevaryl P.v. 1 % solution in the breast area during breast-feeding. This will prevent the infant from coming into direct contact with Epi-Pevaryl P.v. 1 % solution.

Driving and using machines

Epi-Pevaryl P.v. 1 % solution has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines.

3. HOW TO USE EPI-PEVARYL P.V. 1 % SOLUTION?

Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or exactly as agreed with your doctor or pharmacist. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

The recommended dose is

First shower your hair and your whole body. Then apply Epi-Pevaryl P.v. 1 % solution to the damp scalp, the still damp affected areas of the body and the rest of the body. Do not forget the armpits, skin folds and spaces between the toes. If possible, have someone else treat your back. Use one third of the contents of the sachet for the scalp, affected areas of the body and the rest of the body respectively.

Type of use

Massage the solution in for at least 3 - 5 minutes. The foam is not rinsed off, but should dry and take effect overnight. The next morning, Epi-Pevaryl P.v. 1 % solution can be rinsed off. After using the solution, you should wash your hands thoroughly (exception: treatment of the hands).

Duration of use

Use Epi-Pevaryl P.v. 1 % solution for three consecutive evenings before going to bed. The contents of one entire sachet are intended for one application. The symptoms of pityriasis versicolor usually subside during the 3-day treatment period. In stubborn cases, treatment should be continued for 6 days. If you have had pityriasis versicolor before or if large areas of skin are affected, a treatment period of 6 days is also recommended. If necessary, your doctor should check for live fungi after 14 days. If live fungi are still detectable, you must repeat the treatment. To avoid relapses, it is advisable to use Epi-Pevaryl P.v. 1 % solution for follow-up treatment after 1 and 3 months if there is a risk of reinfection or in areas where this fungal infection is common.

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of Epi-Pevaryl P.v. 1 % solution is too strong or too weak.

If you have used more Epi-Pevaryl P.v. 1%

solution than you should

If Epi-Pevaryl P.v. 1 % solution is accidentally ingested, especially in children, it can cause nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. If necessary, your doctor will treat these symptoms symptomatically.

If you forget to use Epi-Pevaryl P.v. 1 %

solution

Do not use a double dose to make up for a forgotten application.

If you stop using Epi-Pevaryl P.v. 1 %

solution

If you stop treatment with Epi-Pevaryl P.v. 1 % solution too early, the fungal infection may recur.

4. WHAT SIDE EFFECTS ARE POSSIBLE?

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Possible side effects

Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):
  • Itching, burning of the skin.
  • Pain.
Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):
  • Redness of the skin.
  • Discomfort, swelling.
Not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data):
  • Swelling (angioedema), skin inflammation, rash, hives, blistering, scaling of the skin.
  • Hypersensitivity.

If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. This also applies to side effects not listed in this leaflet. 5. HOW TO STORE EPI-PEVARYL P.V. 1 % SOLUTION?

Keep this medicine out of the reach of children. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton and the sachet after "Use by". The expiry date refers to the last day of the month indicated. This medicinal product does not require any special storage conditions. Medicines should be disposed of in accordance with local requirements. Therefore, ask your pharmacist how to dispose of the medicine when you no longer use it. This will help to protect the environment.

What Epi-Pevaryl P.v. 1 %

solution contains

The active ingredient is: Econazole. 10 g solution (equivalent to 1 sachet) contains 100 mg econazole. The other ingredients are: Purified water; N-(2-Hydroxyethyl)-A/-(lauramidoethyl)glycine, sodium salt; (3,6,9-TrioxadocosyDhydrogensulfate, sodium salt; Isopropanol; Polysorbate 20; Polyethylene glycol-6000-distearate; Sorbitan laurate; Benzyl alcohol.

What Epi-Pevaryl P.v. 1 %

Epi-Pevaryl P.v. 1 % solution is a light yellow, viscous solution. Epi-Pevaryl P.v. 1 % solution is available in packs of 3 and 6 PET/aluminium/acrylonitrile sachets, each containing 10 g solution. Not all pack sizes may be marketed.
