Application notes / methods

For patient washing, apply undiluted octenisan® wash lotion to a damp washcloth and rub into the corresponding body parts for approx. 1 minute and rinse off. When showering or washing hair, octenisan® wash lotion should be used like commercially available products.

Wash lotion has proven efficacy

- Broad spectrum of action against bacteria (according to EN 12 054 with MRSA isolates as well as Enterococcus hirae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and E. coli), exposure time 1 min.
- In a practical test on skin artificially contaminated with S. epidermidis - recommended exposure time 1 min.
- According to a clinical trial at the University Hospital Aachen, octenisan® wash lotion achieved an excellent MRSA eradication rate of approx. 80%. Over a period of 26 months (January 2003 - March 2005), the MRSA skin status was determined in all MRSA-positive patients in the nasal vestibule, on the forehead, in the armpit, in the groin area, in wounds and in the throat. The patients included in the study were washed daily with octenisan® wash lotion for five days (including hair). The success of the sanitisation was checked by repeated skin swabs according to a defined procedure. Smaller wounds were treated with octenisept®. A total of 105 patients out of 318 (= 33%) were found to have MRSA in the skin screening. Of these 105 patients, 45 patients (= 43%) were able to undergo the measures according to the study protocol. A total of 35 out of 45 patients (= 78%) were able to eradicate MRSA permanently over an observation period of 14 days. PD Dr. med. S. W. Lemmen University Hospital Aachen Aachen, 30 May 2005

Composition

Aqua, Cocamidopropylamine Oxide, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Glycerin, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Lactic Acid, Octenidine HCl, Allantoin.

Due to the balanced composition of the various ingredients including octenidine and allantoin, octenisan® wash lotion has very good nourishing properties.
