1. WHAT IS KEPHALODORON 5% AND WHAT IS IT USED FOR?

Kephalodoron 5% is an anthroposophic medicine for vascular headaches. Areas of application: According to anthroposophical knowledge of man and nature, the areas of application include: Vascular headaches, migraines, symptoms after a concussion; nervous states of exhaustion, especially those that are hereditary.

2. WHAT DO YOU NEED TO CONSIDER BEFORE TAKING KEPHALODORON 5% ?

Kephalodoron 5% Tablets must not be used:

• in case of iron storage and iron utilization disorders,
• in diseases with increased degradation of red blood cells (chronic hemolysis),
• in case of hypersensitivity to wheat starch or any of the other ingredients,
• in children under 1 year of age due to the ingredient Mel (honey).

Precautions for use

In case of new, persistent or unclear symptoms, please consult a doctor.

Children

Kephalodoron 5% Tablets should not be used in children aged 1 to 5 years, as there is not enough documented experience.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Like all medicines, Kephalodoron 5% Tablets should only be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding after consulting a doctor.

Interactions with other medicines

Iron-containing medicines hinder the absorption of tetracyclines taken at the same time. Therefore, Kephalodoron 5% Tablets should not be taken during treatment with tetracycline-containing medicines. Aluminum, calcium and magnesium-containing antacids (medicines for too much stomach acid) and colestyramine (medicine for treating high blood fat levels) reduce the absorption of iron and can therefore impair the effectiveness of Kephalodoron 5% Tablets. This also applies to black tea, coffee, milk or alcohol. Kephalodoron 5% Tablets should therefore not be taken together with these liquids. Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, even if they are non-prescription medicines.

Important information about certain ingredients of Kephalodoron 5%:
This medicine contains lactose. Therefore, please only take the tablets after consulting your doctor if you know that you are intolerant to certain sugars. Wheat starch may contain small amounts of gluten, which are also considered tolerable for patients suffering from celiac disease.

3. HOW SHOULD KEPHALODORON 5% BE TAKEN?

Always take Kephalodoron 5% exactly as described in this package leaflet. If your doctor has not prescribed otherwise, the usual dose is: Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over: 1–3 times a day 1–2 tablets, children aged 5 years and over: 1–3 times a day 1 tablet. Kephalodoron 5% Tablets are taken unchewed with water.

Duration of use

The treatment of an acute illness should be completed after 2 weeks. If there is no improvement within 3 days, a doctor should be consulted. The duration of treatment for chronic diseases requires consultation with a doctor.

If you have forgotten to take Kephalodoron 5%

Do not take a double dose if you have forgotten to take the previous dose.

Please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure how to use this medicine.

4. WHAT SIDE EFFECTS ARE POSSIBLE?

Wheat starch can cause hypersensitivity reactions. During the use of Kephalodoron 5% Tablets, the stool may darken. This is due to the iron content and is completely harmless. In patients with sensitive stomachs, Kephalodoron 5% Tablets may rarely cause a feeling of pressure. In this case, Kephalodoron 0.1% Tablets are preferable. If Kephalodoron 5% Tablets are chewed before swallowing, the iron content may cause discoloration of the teeth and a metallic taste.

5. WHAT ELSE IS IMPORTANT?

Do not use the medicine after the expiry date stated on the label and carton. Storage conditions: The tablets are sensitive to moisture. Therefore, the container must be closed tightly after each removal.

Composition

1 tablet contains: Active ingredient: Ferrum-Quarz Ursubstanz 10 mg. (1 g of Ursubstanz contains: Ferrum sulfuricum 0.64 g, Mel 0.32 g, Vinum 0.02 g and Quarz 0.16 g.) Other ingredients: Lactose monohydrate, wheat starch, calcium behenate.

Dosage form and pack sizes

100 tablets, 250 tablets. Kephalodoron Tablets are also available in a strength of 0.1%.
