What is Otodolor direkt and what is it used for?
Otodolor direkt is a preservative-free solution for instillation into the ear (external auditory canal). It contains only glycerol, a clear, colourless, viscous substance. Otodolor direkt is used for the supportive treatment of inflammation of the external auditory canal (otitis externa). It relieves earache and discomfort such as irritation or itching, as often caused by chlorinated water, diving or wind. Otodolor direkt is also suitable for preventive use before and after bathing or diving.

When should Otodolor direkt be used?
Summertime means bathing time! However, this often poses risks to the ear, as many people regularly suffer from ear infections after swimming, bathing or diving. For this reason, the symptoms are also known as "swimmer's ear". However, there are also other causes that can lead to inflammation of the auditory canal. These include, among others, incorrect cleaning with cotton buds, matches or similar instruments; frequent and prolonged wearing of headphones or headsets; earwax that blocks the auditory canal; foreign bodies that have entered the ear. The excessive use of surfactants, such as those found in shampoos, shower gels or soaps, can also destroy the ear's natural protective film. The skin in the auditory canal becomes more sensitive to all mechanical, thermal or chemical irritations. Inflammation of the auditory canal is the result. In the initial stage, the auditory canal itches severely; swelling occurs, which is accompanied by varying degrees of pain. Glycerol in Otodolor direkt cleanses and nourishes the skin, reduces swelling and thus also leads to a reduction in pain.

When should Otodolor direkt not be used?
Otodolor direkt should not be used in case of hypersensitivity to glycerol or a perforated eardrum (tympanic membrane perforation).

What is special about Otodolor direkt?
The ear drops contain glycerol as the only ingredient, often also called glycerin. It is a compound that occurs naturally in all vegetable and animal fats and oils. The highest content is found in coconut oil. Glycerol has two properties that are particularly important for its use as ear drops: due to its oily nature, it adheres well to the skin and helps to protect and care for it. It also has a high water-binding or water-attracting capacity. This leads to water being drawn out of the swollen tissue (osmotic effect) and the pressure in the tissue decreasing. The swelling recedes and the pain decreases.

How to use Otodolor direkt?
As needed, drip about 2 to 3 drops (body temperature) into the auditory canal of the affected ear while lying on your side, which can then be closed with cotton wool.

How often and for how long should Otodolor direkt be used?
There are no restrictions on the frequency or duration of use.

What other instructions for use should be observed?
If the symptoms do not subside after a few days or if a fever has developed, you should definitely consult a doctor. Otodolor direkt should not be instilled into the ear while wearing a hearing aid. Hearing aid wearers should use Otodolor direkt about 1 hour before inserting the hearing aid.

What instructions for storing Otodolor direkt should be observed?
Otodolor direkt should not be used after the expiry date (2). After first opening, you should not use Otodolor direkt for longer than 4 weeks. Therefore, note the date of first opening on the bottle. Keep out of reach of children.
