What is algovir?
algovir Children is a nasal spray that forms a protective film against cold viruses and supports the body's natural defenses by continuously moisturizing the nasal mucosa. algovir Children can be used as a supportive measure for the prevention and treatment of colds or cold-related illnesses with a viral cause. algovir Children can also be used for preventive and continuous moisturizing of the nasal mucosa. For use in adults and children from one year of age. algovir Children does not contain any preservatives. A sterile filter ensures the sterility of the solution even after repeated use.

What does algovir Children contain?
algovir Children is a clear, colorless, viscous solution with no odor. 1 ml of solution contains 1.2 mg iota-carrageenan (carrageenan), sodium chloride and purified water.

What are the properties of algovir Children?
Colds and cold-related illnesses are predominantly caused by viruses, which usually enter the body through the nose and then settle on the nasal mucosa. There, the viruses multiply and spread. This results in typical cold symptoms such as a blocked or runny nose, sore throat and/or headache, cough, etc. A moist nasal mucosa supports the natural defense against viruses and environmental influences. However, the filtering function of the nose, i.e. the retention of particles (viruses, dust, etc.) present in the breathing air, can only be fulfilled by a moist nasal mucosa with a functioning, healthy ciliated epithelium. A dry and irritated nasal mucosa can be a result of general air pollution as well as frequent exposure to places with low relative humidity, such as heated or air-conditioned rooms, cars, trains or airplanes. Both factors - air pollution and low humidity - cause the nasal mucosa to dry out.

algovir Children contains carrageenan, a substance extracted from red algae from the sea. Carrageenan has a twofold positive effect:

• algovir Children forms a protective barrier against cold viruses. Colds are caused by a large number of different types of viruses, such as rhinoviruses and coronaviruses. Carrageenan non-specifically envelops these cold viruses and thus prevents them from attaching to the mucous membrane. The multiplication and spread of the cold viruses infecting the respiratory tract is reduced. This limits the number of viruses that can infect the body's cells.
• algovir Children forms a moisturizing protective film that remains on the nasal mucosa for longer due to carrageenan and acts as a physical barrier against external influences. The natural defense against viruses is supported.

Areas of application - when is algovir Children used?

• algovir Children is used for the prevention and supportive treatment of viral infections of the upper respiratory tract such as colds and cold-related illnesses.
• algovir Children can shorten the duration of a cold, relieve cold symptoms and reduce their recurrence or the risk of a new infection.
• algovir Children is used for preventive and continuous moisturizing of the nasal mucosa and thus for the prophylaxis and supportive treatment of all complaints that exist as a result of dry or irritated nasal mucosa.

Dosage and type of application

How and how often is algovir Children used?
At the first signs of a cold (e.g. sore throat, tingling or runny nose, etc.), spray at least 3 times a day one spray into each nostril. Treatment should be started as soon as possible after the first symptoms of a cold appear and continued until the symptoms subside. If a fever occurs or there is no improvement after 1 week of treatment, a doctor should be consulted.

To moisturize a dry nasal mucosa, spray several times a day into the nose as needed:

• Before use, remove the protective cap and, if necessary, perform a few pumping actions until an even spray mist is emitted. algovir Children is now ready to use.
• Insert the spray head carefully and not too deeply into the nose to avoid injury! Hold the spray bottle upright when spraying.
• Replace the protective cap after use.

When should algovir Children not be used?
In case of known hypersensitivity to any component of the product.

Possible side effects of algovir Children

No interactions or side effects are known to date, apart from very rare cases of hypersensitivity such as nosebleeds. Studies on interactions with other products have not been carried out.

Special instructions for safe use:

• algovir Children has a local effect and is not absorbed by the body.
• algovir Children can also be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
• If symptoms persist, you should consult a doctor.
• Any serious incident that occurs with the use of algovir Children should be reported to the manufacturer and the competent authority in your country.
• For hygienic reasons and to avoid the transmission of pathogens, each spray bottle should only be used by one and the same person.
• Keep out of reach of children!

Shelf life

36 months from date of manufacture. The special filter system keeps the solution sterile even after repeated use. algovir Children can therefore be used until the expiry date stated on the packaging.

Storage instructions

Store between 5°C and 30°C. Protect from light.
