Chestnuts

Chestnuts or also known as sweet chestnuts or marrons are a popular delicacy. They are among the oldest cultivated plants in the world. Originally they come from the area between the Caspian and Black Seas. The Romans valued sweet chestnuts as provisions on long marches.

There are many different ways to prepare them. Either roasted in the oven, for this score the chestnut at the pointed end and roast at 180 degrees top and bottom heat for about 20-25 minutes, or boiled as a roast filling or side dish with game and poultry.
