For the production of Laphroaig, malted barley is dried over a peat fire. The smoke from this special peat, found only on Islay, gives Laphroaig its unique and diverse aroma. This whisky matured for at least 10 years in ex-Bourbon casks made of American oak. The result is a full, radiant gold in colour and a very smoky aroma, refined with a certain sweetness. Its medium-bodied, oily character offers a taste that delights with a surprising sweetness with nuances of salt and layers of earthy flavour, as well as a long, round and very dry finish.
