Le Macioche, today known as Famiglia Cotarella, is a traditional winery in Montalcino, Italy, known for its excellent red wines, including Rosso di Montalcino DOC and Brunello di Montalcino DOCG. Originally founded in 1979 by Matilde Zecca and Achille Mazzocchi, the winery was taken over by Riccardo Cotarella and his family in 2017. The winery's vineyards cover an area of 6 hectares, including 3 hectares of Sangiovese for Brunello, and are located in a unique position that receives hot air from Sant'Antimo and cold air from Montalcino. This leads to a high thermal variation, which gives the wines their characteristic aroma. The vinification takes place in a wine cellar, which is located under a low hill on which the company buildings also stand. Since 2018, the winery has been fully certified organic.
