Red wine 14% Vol

The 2017 Barón de Ley Gran Reserva embodies the essence of the elegance, complexity and grace of Rioja. Made from a careful selection of Tempranillo and Graciano grapes, these come from old vineyards in Cenicero, Rioja Alta. The combination of a Mediterranean climate with a clear Atlantic influence and low-yielding vines makes it possible to produce elegant wines with ageing potential. The wine is aged for at least 24 months in American and French oak barrels and a further 36 months in the bottle, resulting in a wine with exceptional aromatic complexity and a smooth, velvety structure.

Grape variety: Tempranillo and Graciano.

Serving recommendation: 16°C – 18°C.

Colour: Lovely ruby red with medium depth and slight brick-red hues, typical definition of a Rioja Gran Reserva.

Nose: Great aromatic intensity, less fruity but with generous hints of lavender, ginger and saffron.

Taste: A round and balanced palate, showing silky tannins while remaining fresh and lively. The aftertaste is long and persistent, offering hints of toasted wood and dried fruit.

Food Pairing: This wine is enjoyed with a classic of Rioja cuisine, the chuletillas al sarmiento – milk lamb chops grilled over dried vine shoots, providing a unique and healthy smoky flavour. We also call this our "fireplace wine", to be enjoyed slowly on its own, with a cheese board or Iberian ham.

The winery: Barón de Ley is a renowned Spanish winery located on the east side of the Ebro River in the Rioja DOCa, known primarily for its red wines and the Tempranillo grape variety. The winery has a long history, beginning with the construction of its facilities and evolving over the years. Its wines are the result of a combination of traditional viticulture and modern techniques, with a constant focus on quality and authenticity.
