Breed & Haltung

A flat, unprotected land needs small, strong animals. For this purpose, local breeds such as Texel or Schwarzkopf were crossed with short-legged, English bucks. They are almost always in the middle of the greenery, eating herb tips, caring for and fertilising the traditional cultural landscape.

Spacious sheepfolds complement this programme: However, only weakened animals that need attention come here. And of course ewes – once a year for winter lambing. Their manure is also spread on the meadows to promote plant growth. From spring onwards, they roam the vast land again with their lambs. An ecological cycle based on the model of old times.
