Tebamol - The pure tea tree oil
The essential oil for a wide range of applications
For probably several millennia, the Bundjalung Aborigines in northern New South Wales have been aware of the special properties of tea tree leaves. These were used - mostly after prolonged soaking in water - by the Aborigines as infusions and poultices. But it was not until James Cook, who made a tea from the leaves, that this miracle tree became known beyond the borders of Australia in 1770. This is also where the name "tea tree" comes from.
The essential oil was first distilled in 1925 and over the years developed into a universal household remedy with a wide range of applications in Australia. Even today, it is hardly missing in any Australian household! Of the more than 200 Melaleuca species worldwide, belonging to the myrtle family, only about 30 are native to Australia. Only one, Melaleuca Alternifolia of the terpinen-4-ol type, has the special properties. This species, which grows in the humid climate of Australia, is extremely resistant and disease-resistant and is not attacked by fungi even under such extreme climatic conditions. The essential oil is obtained from the leaves of this tree, which are harvested every 15 to 18 months and grow back immediately, by steam distillation. The collected knowledge about the active ingredients of this oil is reflected in the ISO/DIS standard 4730, which sets a minimum of 30% for terpinen-4-ol. The proportion of cineole in tea tree oil is specified here with a maximum of 15%.
Cosmetic products that contain genuine Australian tea tree oil, such as creams or shampoos, also have excellent properties. In addition to pure Australian tea tree oil, the following Tebamol tea tree oil products are therefore available exclusively in pharmacies as cosmetics.
