1. What is Zink Verla 10 mg and what is it used for?
Zink Verla 10 mg is a mineral supplement.

Zink Verla 10 mg is used for

- proven zinc deficiency,
- treatment with penicillamine and other complexing agents.

2. What should you consider before taking Zink Verla 10 mg?
Zink Verla 10 mg must not be taken if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to zinc-D-gluconate or any of the other ingredients of Zink Verla 10 mg. Apart from that, no conditions are currently known under which you should not take Zink Verla 10 mg.

Special care should be taken when taking Zink Verla 10 mg,
if you take Zink Verla 10 mg for a longer period of time (several months); then zinc and copper should be monitored by laboratory diagnostics.

Children

Only give this medicine to children under 6 months after consulting a doctor, as there is not yet sufficient experience for a general recommendation for this age group.

When taking Zink Verla 10 mg with other medicines

Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using or have recently taken/used any other medicines, even if they are non-prescription medicines. The effect of the following active substances or groups of preparations can be influenced by simultaneous treatment with Zink Verla 10 mg.
- The absorption of zinc into the bloodstream can be reduced if zinc and iron salts or copper salts are taken at the same time.
- The administration of complexing agents such as D-penicillamine, dimercaptopropanesulfonic acid (DMPS) or edetinic acid (EDTA) can reduce the absorption of zinc or increase its excretion.
- Zinc can reduce the absorption of copper and iron.
- The effectiveness of antibiotics such as tetracycline, ciprofloxacin and quinolones is reduced if taken at the same time as zinc.
An interval of at least 2 hours should therefore be maintained between taking Zink Verla 10 mg and taking these preparations.

When taking Zink Verla 10 mg with food and drink

You should not take Zink Verla 10 mg with plant-based foods (especially cereal products, legumes, nuts) as these impair the absorption of zinc into the bloodstream.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

There are no restrictions on taking Zink Verla 10 mg within the recommended dosage range.

Driving and operating machinery

No special precautions are required.

3. How should you take Zink Verla 10 mg?
Always take Zink Verla 10 mg exactly as described in this package leaflet. Please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Dosage

Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, the usual dose is

1 film-coated tablet 1 to 2 times a day.

Method of administration
Take the film-coated tablets unchewed with sufficient liquid at a clear time interval before meals (approx. 1 hour), as the absorption of zinc into the bloodstream can be impaired by food.

Duration of use
The duration of use depends on the need and the success of the treatment. Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of Zink Verla 10 mg is too strong or too weak.

If you have taken a larger amount of Zink Verla 10 mg than you should,
the side effects listed under point 4 may be more pronounced. Signs of an overdose are a metallic taste on the tongue, headache, diarrhoea and vomiting. In this case, stop taking Zink Verla 10 mg and ask your doctor for advice.

4. What side effects are possible?
Like all medicines, Zink Verla 10 mg can have side effects, although not everybody gets them.

The following frequency information is used to evaluate side effects:
Very common: more than 1 in 10 treated persons
Common: 1 to 10 in 100 treated persons
Uncommon: 1 to 10 in 1,000 treated persons
Rare: 1 to 10 in 10,000 treated persons
Very rare: less than 1 in 10,000 treated persons
Not known: frequency cannot be estimated from the available data.


Very rarely, nausea or vomiting may occur when taking Zink Verla 10 mg. If the above side effects occur, you should take Zink Verla 10 mg with meals as an exception, but not with plant-based foods (see under 2.).

What Zink Verla 10 mg contains

The active ingredient is: Zinc-D-gluconate

1 film-coated tablet contains

Zinc-D-gluconate 70 mg, corresponding to 10 mg zinc.

The other ingredients are

Microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, highly dispersed silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate (Ph. Eur.), hypromellose, ethylcellulose, triethyl citrate.

Zink Verla 10 mg contains no gluten or lactose.
