1. WHAT IS VERRUCID AND WHAT IS IT USED FOR?

Verrucid is a 10% solution of salicylic acid in an organic solvent mixture, which is used externally on the skin as a peeling agent for cornification disorders caused by warts as well as for corns and calluses.

2. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE USING VERRUCID?

Verrucid must not be used:
  • in case of hypersensitivity to salicylic acid, salicylates or other components of the medicine.
  • Verrucid should not be used in infants and in patients with renal insufficiency.
  • Verrucid must not come into contact with mucous membranes, in particular contact with the eyes must be avoided.
Special care must be taken when using Verrucid if Verrucid is applied near inflammations and wounds. If the eyes and mucous membranes have come into contact with Verrucid, they should be rinsed with water.

When using Verrucid with other medicines

Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using or have recently taken/used other medicines, even if they are non-prescription medicines. Salicylic acid can increase the penetration of other topically applied medicines into the skin. Salicylic acid absorbed into the bloodstream can increase the harmful effects of methotrexate and enhance the blood sugar lowering effect of sulfonylureas.

When using Verrucid together with food and drinks

You should not eat or drink at the same time while using Verrucid.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using any medicine. Verrucid should not be used during pregnancy, except on an area smaller than 5 cm2. It should also not be used on the breasts of nursing mothers.

Driving and using machines

No impairment.

3. HOW TO USE VERRUCID?

Always use Verrucid exactly as described in this package leaflet. Please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, the usual dose is: Verrucid is applied twice a day to the skin areas to be treated. The solution is applied to warts, corns and calluses with the brush attached to the bottle cap. Verrucid is to be used daily. The existing pyroxylin film should be removed before each new application of Verrucid. Verrucid works only externally and must not be taken orally. When applying Verrucid, care must be taken to ensure that the solution does not flow onto healthy skin. After successful therapy, treatment should be continued for another week. The average duration of use is 6 weeks. Experience in children is limited. For safety reasons, the maximum daily dose of 1 ml of solution should therefore not be exceeded and the total duration of use should be limited to a maximum of 6 weeks. Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of Verrucid is too strong or too weak.

If you have used more Verrucid than you should

As a countermeasure, it is recommended to rinse off the excess medicine immediately with warm water.

If you forget to use Verrucid

Do not apply double the dose, but continue treatment as directed.

If you stop using Verrucid

If the medicine is discontinued prematurely, the cornification disorder may persist.

If you have any further questions about the use of the medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
