KLYSMA 1x saline

Product features

1 x saline enema
Enema for rectal irrigation

Composition 100 ml contains

Sodium dihydrogen phosphate 2 H20, 16.0 g, disodium hydrogen phosphate 2 H20, 2.98 g, sodium benzoate 0.12 g, purified water.

Indications

For rapid bowel evacuation of the rectum, e.g. before operations, X-ray examinations, colonoscopies and births.

Contraindications

Do not use this product in case of:

• Patients with kidney problems.
• Difficult bowel movements due to obstruction or blockage.
• Injury to the anal region caused by a bowel perforation or a tear after surgery, especially in the case of postoperative inability to move stool through the bowel.

This product is not suitable for infants and toddlers under 6 years of age. Diseases in which the bowel is inflamed or swollen and which can lead to cramps, pain, constipation and diarrhoea, e.g. in the case of Hirschsprung's disease (Morbus Hirschsprung). All diseases in which it is likely that increased electrolytes (salts in the blood), such as sodium or phosphate, will be absorbed from the bowel.

Side effects

Irritation of the intestinal mucosa may occur. In rare cases, a decrease in soft tissue around the rectum (rectal gangrene) due to severe ulceration or due to wounds has been associated with the use of phosphate-containing enemas in elderly patients. High phosphate levels and low calcium levels in the blood or other severe electrolyte imbalances resulting in severe muscle cramps have been reported.

Interactions with other agents

High phosphate and sodium levels and low calcium levels in the blood are more likely to occur when phosphate-containing enemas are used or when laxatives are taken orally by patients who are taking diuretics or other medications that can affect the electrolyte levels in the blood.

Dosage, unless otherwise prescribed: Generally the contents of one bottle for adults.

Caution

Use with caution only in elderly and weakened or frail patients and in patients with pre-existing electrolyte imbalances. For single use only. The reuse or reprocessing of single-use medical devices can lead to contamination. Dispose of the plastic container after use, even if not all of the contents have been used. Use only clear solutions in undamaged containers. Do not use the product after the expiry date. Keep out of reach of children.

Notes

1 x saline enema may be slightly yellow in colour. This discolouration does not affect the effectiveness of the product.

Type and duration of use

As an enema into the bowel. To use the bottle, unscrew the cap and lightly grease the nozzle (e.g. with Vaseline). When inserting the nozzle into the anus, the patient should lie on their left side if possible. By gently pressing the plastic container, the contents are slowly injected into the rectum. The plastic container must remain squeezed even while it is being removed. The patient should not give in to the urge to empty their bowels for at least 15-20 minutes to ensure that the rectum is emptied thoroughly. If premature emptying occurs, it is safe to repeat the application. 1 x saline enema is not intended for continuous use. However, it can be used repeatedly at irregular intervals as needed.
