What is Bepanthen Sensiderm Cream used for?
Reddened and itchy skin can have various causes, such as dry skin, atopic dermatitis/eczema, allergic skin reactions and various other skin irritations. These skin conditions are characterized by a disrupted skin protective barrier, which normally protects the skin from the entry of harmful substances from the environment. However, if this protective barrier of the skin is disrupted, allergens, e.g. from house dust mites, animals or pollen, can enter the skin and trigger a defense reaction of the immune system, which leads to redness and itching. The severe itching that can occur triggers an urge to scratch. However, this damages the skin even further.

What does a disrupted skin protective barrier mean and how can it be treated?
One of the most important tasks of the skin is to prevent the penetration of harmful substances and to retain water in the body. The outermost layer of the skin is responsible for this, which represents the protective barrier against the environment. It consists of horny cells that are surrounded by special fats (lipids). Of particular importance among the fats are ceramides and free fatty acids, which are arranged in layers similar to lamellae and are significantly involved in the formation of the skin's protective barrier. Only when these fats are present in a natural ratio to each other can the skin build up this special layered structure and perform its important protective function. Between these layers, certain substances, the so-called moisturizing factors, bind the water in the skin barrier and thus provide the skin with sufficient moisture.
Reddened and itchy skin, which is caused, for example, by dry skin, atopic dermatitis/eczema, allergic skin reactions and various other skin irritations, is characterized by a disrupted skin protective barrier. The lipid content in the horny layer is reduced. If this protective barrier is damaged, water escapes from the skin, leading to dry skin accompanied by itching. In addition, harmful substances from the environment can more easily penetrate the body, which leads to defense mechanisms of the immune system, which can cause redness and further increase itching. How does Bepanthen Sensiderm Cream repair the skin's protective barrier?
Bepanthen Sensiderm Cream is a light, white cream that contains lipid lamellae that stabilize the skin's protective barrier by balancing the missing lipid content of the horny layer and thus soothing irritated skin, which leads to the relief of redness and itching. This reduces the urge to scratch and supports the skin's regeneration. These lipid lamellae consist of ceramides and other lipids and are characterized by the fact that they are modeled on the structure of the skin's own lipids. A long-lasting supply of moisture supports the regeneration of the skin and stabilizes the skin's protective barrier, which consequently reduces irritation and itching. Bepanthen Sensiderm Cream therefore contains physiological moisturizing substances such as glycerin, which - as in healthy skin - bind water in the skin. This effect is supported by dexpanthenol, which supplies the skin's protective barrier with moisture and thus creates optimal conditions for the natural regeneration of the skin. Bepanthen Sensiderm Cream does not contain any of the emulsifiers that can destabilize the sensitive lamellar lipid structure of the skin. Bepanthen Sensiderm Cream is also free of cortisone, fragrances, preservatives, mineral oils, dyes and silicone compounds and is therefore well tolerated.

Bepanthen Sensiderm Cream supports the regeneration of the skin's protective barrier

• by supplying lipids in a skin-like, layered structure thanks to lipid-lamella technology, which integrate into the skin barrier
• by supplying physiological moisturizing substances for better hydration of the skin,
• by supplying natural care lipids.

In this way, the skin's protective barrier is restored and consequently redness and itching are relieved.

How to use Bepanthen Sensiderm Cream?
Bepanthen Sensiderm Cream is used to stabilize the skin's protective barrier and thus to relieve redness and itching as a result of skin irritations as needed on the uninjured skin of infants, children and adults. Such skin irritations occur with problems such as dry skin, atopic dermatitis/eczema and allergic reactions.

When should Bepanthen Sensiderm Cream not be used?

• If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to any of the ingredients of the cream. If an allergic reaction occurs, you should stop using the cream.
• On injured skin.

Can Bepanthen Sensiderm Cream be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding?
Bepanthen Sensiderm Cream can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. When using during breastfeeding: Any cream residue should be wiped off before the next breastfeeding.

What else do you need to consider?
Bepanthen Sensiderm Cream can be used safely on infants. If the symptoms do not improve even after long-term use or if larger areas of skin are affected, it is recommended to consult a doctor.

• For external use only.
• Keep out of reach of children.
• Do not use the product after the expiry date stated on the outer carton and tube.

What side effects are possible when using Bepanthen Sensiderm Cream?
No undesirable side effects are to be expected if used as directed. As with the use of any dermatological product, local skin reactions may occur in individual cases.
