1. WHAT ARE ANGINETTEN LOZENGES AND WHAT ARE THEY USED FOR?

Throat and throat therapeutic.

Indications

anginetten lozenges are used for the supportive treatment of inflammation of the pharyngeal mucosa, which is accompanied by typical symptoms such as sore throat, redness or swelling.

2. WHAT SHOULD YOU CONSIDER BEFORE TAKING ANGINETTEN LOZENGES?

anginetten lozenges must not be taken:
  • if you are allergic to cetylpyridinium, Ponceau 4R (E 124), levomenthol or any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6.
  • by infants and children under 6 years of age.
  • by patients with bronchial asthma or other respiratory diseases that are associated with pronounced hypersensitivity of the respiratory tract.
  • on open wounds. Cetylpyridinium should not be used on mucosal damage due to possible impaired wound healing.

Warnings and precautions

In the case of bacterial infections, simultaneous therapy with a suitable antibiotic may be necessary. Patients with contact allergies should not use anginetten lozenges, as there is an increased likelihood of sensitization.

Special care should be taken when taking anginetten lozenges:
  • In the case of serious illnesses accompanied by high fever, headache, nausea or vomiting, medical advice should be sought.
  • They should only be used to treat acute symptoms. They are not suitable for long-term treatment.
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking anginetten lozenges.

Taking anginetten lozenges with other medicines

anginetten lozenges should not be used in close proximity to tooth brushing, as the effectiveness can be impaired by the ingredients of toothpastes. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using, have recently taken/used or intend to take/use any other medicines.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, or if you suspect you may be pregnant or intend to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Driving and using machines

No special precautions are required.

Please only take anginetten lozenges after consulting your doctor if you are known to suffer from an intolerance to certain sugars. 1 lozenge contains 1.14 g glucose and 1.43 g sucrose (sugar). If you are on a diabetic diet, you should take this into account. anginetten lozenges can be harmful to the teeth (caries).

3. HOW TO TAKE ANGINETTEN LOZENGES?

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

The recommended dose is

Suck 1 lozenge every hour or 2 lozenges every 2 hours. Children aged 6 years and over suck 1 lozenge every 2 hours. You should not take more than 12 lozenges per day, anginetten lozenges should not be taken for longer than necessary without medical or dental advice.

If you have taken more anginetten lozenges than you should

After excessive use of a large amount of anginetten lozenges (significantly more than 12 lozenges per day), nausea, vomiting, cramps, circulatory collapse and coma as well as increased methaemoglobin formation (especially in children) may occur. In these cases, measures to reduce absorption (reduce absorption of the active ingredient) and, if necessary, measures against methaemoglobinaemia (especially in children) should be initiated. If you suspect an overdose of anginetten lozenges, please notify your doctor immediately. Depending on the severity of an overdose, the doctor can decide on the necessary measures.

If you forget to take anginetten lozenges

Do not take double the amount if you have forgotten to take the previous dose.

If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

4. WHAT SIDE EFFECTS ARE POSSIBLE?

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

In rare cases (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people):
  • Hypersensitivity reactions (e.g. swelling of the skin/mucous membranes, hives, pinpoint bleeding of the skin around the eye (periorbital purpura), dizziness and drop in blood pressure with shortness of breath).
  • a delay in wound healing.
  • brownish discolouration of the back of the tongue and/or the necks of the teeth.

Not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data)

Sensitization is possible. In appropriately sensitized patients, levomenthol can trigger hypersensitivity reactions (including shortness of breath). Ponceau 4R (E 124) can cause allergic reactions.

If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. This also applies to side effects not listed in this leaflet. 5. HOW TO STORE ANGINETTEN LOZENGES?

Keep this medicine out of the reach of children. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton and blister (push-through pack). The expiry date refers to the last day of the month indicated. Do not store above 25°C. Store in the original package to protect the contents from moisture. Never dispose of medicines via wastewater (e.g. not via the toilet or sink). Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of the medicine when you no longer use it. What anginetten lozenges contain

The active substance is: 1 lozenge contains 0.33 mg cetylpyridinium chloride 1 H2O. The other ingredients are: glucose syrup (dry substance), sucrose, honey flavouring, levomenthol, lemon flavouring, Ponceau 4R (E 124), quinoline yellow (E 104), patent blue V (E 131) and tartaric acid (Ph. Eur.).

anginetten lozenges are round, yellow-brown, slightly transparent lozenges and are available in packs of 24 lozenges.
