Description
Field-fresh Demeter vegetables from the Allgäu
The paprika originally comes from the tropical and subtropical latitudes of Central America. Christopher Columbus learned about the paprika from the Indians during his voyage of discovery through America and subsequently brought it to Europe.

Compared to the usual bell pepper, the pointed pepper has a peppery-spicy taste and is very popular for grilling, whether on the grill or as a side dish.

On around seven hectares of open land, the Grasser Hof cooperative in Ostallgäu cultivates a wide variety of vegetables according to Demeter guidelines. The individual crops are planted in a different crop rotation each year. This promotes soil fertility and limits the spread of pests. Because the use of chemical pesticides is strictly prohibited in organic-dynamic vegetable cultivation.

In order to be able to grow vegetables all year round, the Grasser Hof also has a foil greenhouse and two thermal greenhouses, which are heated in winter with the waste heat from the farm's own biogas plant. In summer, mainly tomatoes, cucumbers, aubergines, peppers and melons are grown there. In winter, field, winter purslane, Asian and rocket lettuce, as well as various herbs, grow here. The plants are pollinated by a specially deployed bumblebee colony.
