What is Rennie Fresh and what is it used for?
Rennie Fresh is a chewable tablet with an intensely fresh mint flavour for binding excess stomach acid (antacid) for the symptomatic treatment of:

• Heartburn,
• acid reflux,
• acid-related stomach problems.

Rennie Fresh tablets are creamy white, square-shaped and embossed with "Rennie" on both sides.

What is heartburn and how is it treated?
Most people perceive heartburn as a burning sensation that radiates from the stomach into the chest. The cause is an excess of acid in the stomach and the backflow of stomach contents into the oesophagus or even into the mouth. Sometimes stomach acid flows back from the stomach into the oesophagus, which can cause inflammation and pain. This can lead to symptoms such as a painful, burning sensation in the chest (heartburn) that can radiate up to the throat, and a sour taste in the mouth (acid reflux). Triggers can include stress, unhealthy eating habits and eating in a hurry. In some people, heartburn occurs after consuming certain foods, such as spicy foods. Coffee, alcohol and smoking can also cause heartburn. Heartburn also occurs frequently during pregnancy. Rennie Fresh contains the proven combination of calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate. These two minerals react when they come into contact with the excess acid in the gastric juice. They convert the acid into water and other natural substances. This effect is known as neutralisation; it leads to relief from heartburn and other acid-related complaints within minutes.

How is Rennie Fresh used?
The chewable tablets can be chewed or sucked. Adults and adolescents aged 12 and over take 1 - 2 tablets as a single dose when heartburn or acid-related stomach problems occur, preferably one hour after meals and before going to bed, but also in between.

What should be taken into account when using Rennie Fresh?
Prolonged use of high doses could lead to a potentially serious condition known as Burnett's syndrome (milk-alkali syndrome). This disease is associated with high blood calcium levels and impaired kidney function and can manifest itself in the form of headaches, nausea, vomiting, muscle weakness, drowsiness, dizziness and confusion. It is therefore recommended not to use Rennie Fresh for more than 14 days without interruption. Do not take more than 11 tablets per day. Avoid consuming large amounts of calcium-containing products (e.g. milk, cream, cheese, yoghurt, calcium supplements) at the same time. If symptoms of heartburn and acid-related stomach problems persist or only partially subside despite taking Rennie Fresh, consult a doctor.

Rennie Fresh must not be used;

• if you are intolerant to sorbitol or fructose or if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to any of the ingredients of Rennie Fresh (listed in the section "What Rennie Fresh contains").
• in children under 12 years of age.
• if you have kidney problems (i.e. kidney stones, impaired kidney function).
• if you have elevated calcium levels in your blood or urine.
• if you have low phosphate levels in your blood.

Are there any restrictions to be observed when using Rennie Fresh?
If an allergic reaction occurs while using Rennie Fresh, you must stop taking it and consult your doctor if necessary. Take Rennie Fresh 1 to 2 hours apart from medicines. If you are taking a thiazide diuretic (a medicine for high blood pressure), consult your doctor before using Rennie Fresh.

Can Rennie Fresh be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding?
When taken as directed, Rennie Fresh may be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Do not take more than 11 tablets per day and avoid consuming large amounts of milk or calcium-containing products/supplements at the same time.

What else do you need to know?
Keep out of reach of children. Discard the tablet if the blister pack or foil pouch is damaged. For oral use only. Store at room temperature (not above 25°C) - protect from moisture. Do not use this product after the expiry date stated on the outer carton and blister pack. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month stated.

What side effects are possible?
Rennie Fresh can also have side effects, but not everyone experiences them. In very rare cases, allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching or swelling of the skin or mucous membranes, or anaphylaxis (allergic shock) may occur. Other side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach upset or muscle weakness. If you experience these or other unusual symptoms or medical conditions after taking Rennie Fresh, please inform your doctor or pharmacist.

What Rennie Fresh contains

Calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate, sorbitol, maize starch, potato starch, talc, magnesium stearate, liquid paraffin, flavourings, mint flavour, saccharin sodium. Each Rennie Fresh tablet has 1.6 kcal and contains 0.03 bread units. Rennie Fresh is suitable for diabetics.

Rennie Fresh is available in packs of 24 and 48 chewable tablets over the counter in pharmacies.
