As European conquerors discovered in the 17th century, the natives of the Amazon region already appreciated the creaminess. Their extraordinary refreshment drink was called "Abacate" and consisted mainly of avocados. Later, "Advocaat" was made from this with the addition of rum and cane sugar. When the Europeans tried to imitate the creamy taste without the tropical avocados, a drink was created based on egg yolk, alcohol, and sugar - today known as eggnog.
