Accessibility Statement

Accessibility Statement

Großer Kern GmbH is committed to making its digital services accessible in accordance with the German Accessibility Strengthening Act (Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz, “BFSG”) and the associated Ordinance (Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz-Verordnung, “BFSGV”), which implement the European Accessibility Act (Directive (EU) 2019/882).

This accessibility statement applies to our website www.knuspr.de and to our mobile app of the same name.

Description of the service

In our online shop, users can select and order groceries and everyday consumer goods online. The ordering process includes searching for and selecting products, managing the shopping basket and choosing the delivery and payment method. Users also need to create a customer account in order to place an order.

Status of compliance with the requirements

Our aim is to ensure accessible use for everyone, regardless of impairments or technical limitations. We are committed to designing our digital services in line with the BFSG. For the technical implementation we follow the harmonised standard EN 301 549 as well as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 (available here), which set out, among others, the following accessibility principles:

  • Perceivable: content and user interfaces must be designed so that they can be perceived by all users, for example through text alternatives for non-text content, sufficient colour contrast and adaptable presentation formats.
  • Operable: all functions must be operable by users, in particular without a mouse (e.g. via the keyboard).
  • Understandable: content must be clear and understandable, which includes plain language, predictable navigation as well as helpful error messages and input assistance.
  • Robust: content must be designed so that it can be interpreted by assistive technologies.

Our website substantially conforms to level AA of WCAG 2.1. Our mobile app (iOS and Android) partially conforms to level AA of WCAG 2.1 – essential information and the ordering process are accessible, but some non-conformities currently remain. This assessment is based on a self-assessment of accessibility, last carried out on 27 April 2026.

Non-accessible content

Despite our ongoing efforts, some content or functions cannot yet be offered in a fully accessible form. This concerns:

  • Older PDF documents published before 28 June 2025 that are not fully optimised for accessibility.
  • Embedded or linked third-party content, the accessibility of which is outside our direct control.
  • In the mobile app, alternative texts for product images or decorative graphics are missing in some cases, or the alternative texts are insufficient. This is currently being actively reviewed and corrected.
  • When browsing product lists (home page, category pages, search results) with a screen reader (VoiceOver on iOS, TalkBack on Android), the “Add to basket” button on each product card receives the screen reader focus as a separate element rather than as part of the product card. As a result, the screen reader focus unexpectedly moves out of the product context and disrupts the natural reading flow of the product card. The “Add to basket” function remains usable, but screen reader navigation is not optimal. A fix is currently being developed for both platforms, iOS and Android, and is scheduled for completion by 11 May 2026.
  • Apart from the deviation described above, we are aware that the use of the app with a screen reader needs further optimisation overall. We have therefore initiated a structured review covering product search, product details, shopping basket, account and order history. On this basis we are planning prioritised improvements, the implementation of which is scheduled for the second to third quarter of 2026.

We work continuously to improve the accessibility of our digital services and to remove existing barriers.

Measures to implement accessibility

In order to improve digital accessibility, we implement in particular the following measures:

  • regular automated and manual testing of our key pages and of the ordering process;
  • ongoing review of colour contrast ratios, alternative texts and focus navigation;
  • testing of new releases prior to publication;
  • training of the responsible teams;
  • introduction of automated accessibility regression tests in our continuous integration pipeline in the second quarter of 2026, in order to detect possible accessibility regressions before they reach the production environment.
