Elsa and Paul Käfer laid the foundation stone on May 16, 1930, with the opening of a "colonial goods store with wines, liqueurs, and bottled beer" in Schwabinger Amalienstraße. Just three years later, they moved to larger premises on Prinzregentenstraße, corner Schumannstraße. The main house is still located here today. In the 1960s, sons Gerd and Helmut Käfer took over the established delicatessen with lunch service and developed it into a quality and service-oriented gourmet meeting point.
