Composition

100.0 ml China-Oel contain the active ingredient 100.0 ml peppermint oil.

Dosage form and content

Essential oil, 10, 25 and 100 ml.

Herbal medicine for digestive problems, catarrhal diseases of the upper respiratory tract and externally for muscle or nerve pain.

Areas of application

For ingestion in case of spasmodic complaints of the biliary tract and gastrointestinal tract, for ingestion or inhalation in case of colds of the upper respiratory tract, for external use in case of muscle pain (myalgia) and neuralgia-like (neuralgiform) complaints. In case of complaints that last longer than a week or recur periodically, a doctor should be consulted.

Contraindications

When should you not use China-Oel?
You must not take China-Oel if you have a blockage of the bile ducts, inflammation of the gallbladder, or severe liver damage.

When should you only use China-Oel after consulting a doctor?
The following describes when you should only use China-Oel under certain conditions and only with special caution. Please consult your doctor about this. This also applies if this information has applied to you in the past. In case of gallstone disease, the medicine should only be taken after consulting a doctor.

What do you need to consider during pregnancy and breastfeeding?
From the widespread use of peppermint oil as a flavoring and from orienting animal experiments, there have been no indications of risks during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

What should be considered for infants and toddlers?
Peppermint oil should not be applied to the face, especially the nose, of infants and toddlers (preschool age) or used for inhalation, as asthma-like conditions may occur. There are no sufficient studies on the use of this medicine in children with digestive problems. Children under 12 years of age should therefore not take it.

Precautions for use and warnings

What precautions must be taken?
When used externally, wash your hands thoroughly after use. This prevents accidental contact of peppermint oil with sensitive parts of the body such as mucous membranes and open wounds or with the eyes.

What do you need to consider in road traffic as well as when working with machinery and when working without a secure hold?
China-Oel has no adverse effect on the ability to react in road traffic, when working with machinery and when working without a secure hold.

Interactions

Can other medicines affect the effect of China-Oel or be affected by China-Oel?
Interactions with other medicines are not known.

Dosage and type of application

The following information applies unless your doctor has prescribed China-Oel differently. Please follow the instructions for use, otherwise China-Oel will not work properly.

How much and how often should you take China-Oel?

• Internal use: Average daily dose 6 to 12 drops, i.e. 2 - 3 times a day, 3 - 4 drops each time.
• For inhalation: Add 3 - 4 drops to approx. 300 ml of hot water, 2 - 3 times a day.
• External use: Rub a few drops into the affected area of skin.

When and how should you use China-Oel?

Colds of the upper respiratory tract

Add 3 drops to hot water and inhale the vapors deeply with closed eyes - additionally drink 2 - 3 drops in hot water in sips. Rub chest, throat and neck lightly.

Spasmodic complaints of the biliary tract and gastrointestinal tract

Add 3 - 4 drops to half a glass of warm water and drink on an empty stomach.

Muscle pain (myalgia)

Rub a few drops into the painful areas (massage), then keep warm with cotton wool or a woolen cloth.

Neuralgia-like (neuralgiform) complaints

Rub a few drops well into the painful areas. In case of neuralgia-like complaints in the head area, rub a few drops well into the forehead, temples and neck. Dabbing with cold water afterwards increases the effect.

Application errors and overdose

China-Oel should not come into contact with the mucous membranes of the eyes.

What should be done if China-Oel has been used in excessive amounts (intentional or accidental overdose)?
Ingestion of large amounts of essential oils can cause abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. In severe cases, it can also lead to states of intoxication or drowsiness, to disturbances of the heart activity and to shortness of breath. Cases are described in the literature in which the ingestion of 8 to 9 g of menthol, the main ingredient of peppermint oil (corresponding to about 18 ml of peppermint oil), caused only nausea and a feeling of coldness. However, since it is also described in the literature that, especially in sensitive persons, about 2 g of menthol (corresponding to about 1 teaspoon of peppermint oil) can lead to poisoning, a doctor should be notified immediately in case of any possible poisoning with China-Oel, who will initiate the necessary measures.

Specific antidotes are not known; under no circumstances should milk or alcoholic beverages be drunk, as this can promote the absorption of essential oils. Excessive inhalation can cause coughing, which stops quickly after inhalation is discontinued.

Side effects
What side effects can occur when using China-Oel?
In sensitive persons, stomach problems may occur after ingestion. When used externally, burning and reddening of the skin may occur, which subside after thorough rinsing with water. In rare cases, peppermint oil can also cause allergic skin reactions. In these cases, the treatment should be discontinued and a doctor should be consulted. If you notice any side effects that are not listed in this package leaflet, please inform your doctor or pharmacist.

Notes and information on the shelf life of the medicine

The expiry date of this pack is printed on the label and the folding box. Do not use this pack after this date! After opening the bottle, China-Oel has a shelf life of at least 20 months. Medicines should be kept out of the reach of children.
