TUC is originally a Belgian brand of crackers that has been on the market since 1958. The brand has established itself worldwide and is available in Europe, Asia, North America, and Africa. The original thin crackers are shaped like an octagon and have a golden-yellow color with a shiny surface. The name TUC is embossed in small holes on the crackers to prevent blistering during baking. The abbreviation TUC stands for 'Trades Union Corporation'. Over the years, many variants of the cracker have been introduced, including original, crispy, cheese, bacon, salt & pepper, garlic & herbs, paprika, sesame, tomato-mozzarella, pizza, barbecue, sweet chili, BREAK original, BREAK rosemary & olive oil, BREAK grains, and sour cream & onion, mini and Crack's. Some products are vegan. TUCs for Europe are produced by Kraft Foods, taken over by Mondelez in 2012, except for English-speaking countries, which are supplied by the Jacob Fruitfield Food Group. In March 2023, it was announced that the Mondelēz factory in Herentals will significantly expand its capacity for TUC from 2024. 6,500 tons per year will be produced. The planned expansion is necessary because the popularity of the crackers has increased and the facility in Ukraine was severely damaged during a military attack in 2022. The largest mill in Bad Fallingbostel, Lower Saxony, employs around 600 people and produces well-known brands such as Philadelphia and Miracle-Whip. The Milka factory in Lörrach is Mondelez's largest chocolate factory in Europe and operates around the clock with about 500 employees. For almost 40 years, crispy snacks for export have been produced at the factory in Donauwörth, known in Italy as 'Fonzies' and in France as 'Croustilles'. The Milka factory in Bludenz, Austria, produces about 1 million chocolate bars daily and exports to around 30 countries.
