Beschreibung

Rödel Premium Sardines in extra virgin olive oil. Enjoy their rich aroma and fine texture for a very special French fish moment.

The Rödel sardines are not simple sardines; they will offer you a unique tasting experience.

-  important product features ( USPs )

The sardines are caught along the French coast of Brittany, selected, trimmed and then arranged in tins by hand.

They are prepared in an old-fashioned style to guarantee optimal quality.

Preserved in an Extra Virgin olive oil (cold pressed) these sardines are prepared in the purest tradition of Brittany tinned fish.

They are a tribute to the vintage classic French sardines in Olive oil recipe.

- unique product proposition ( compared to competitor products etc. )

Fished by MSC labelled fishermen the sardines are then prepared by hand. We are only using fresh fish from the coast of Brittany that are tinned the same day of the catch.

Deep fried for 3 minutes precisely, they are then hand disposed in the tins where they will be covered in olive oil and sealed. Each tin on the market was already kept 6 month after production for the fish to be fully comfit in oil.

With this process you’ll enjoy the lightness and very fine taste of French fish. Discover “la crème de la crème” of tinned sardines.

Product use

Carefully open your Rödel tin and take out the sardines. Put them on a piece of bread with butter (better salted) and enjoy your tasting. You can add a little pinch of lemon if you want.

Don’t throw the oil, you can use it to prepare a unique fishy vinaigrette for your salads.

The Rödel sardines will be perfect at any time of the day, from the breakfast to the dinner.

Pair them with a glass of white wine, crémant or champagne or dry cider for a complete gourmet experience.

Bon appétit !

About manufacture

Rödel remains the oldest French cannery to this day. In 1824, the government asked Nicolas Appert to recommend one of his students to manufacture canned goods for the Navy's general stores in Bordeaux: this was Charles-Désiré Rödel.

The first product produced was canned beef with vegetables, but a sardine cannery was opened as early as 1839 in Les Sables-d'Olonne (Vendée). Sea captains became the most valuable partners in the business, spreading the Rödel brand as far afield as Buenos Aires, Montevideo, and Valparaíso. The company also presented itself as a supplier to the Emperor of Brazil. This export focus likely explains the logo's design: a globe combined with a beehive (circa 1880). The Saint-Yrieix (Haute-Vienne) factory, dedicated to preserving porcini mushrooms, was inaugurated in 1880.

Following the Villeneuve-sur-Lot factory in 1900, the seventh factory was established in Arcachon in 1907. Jams were launched in 1917. With 17 factories from Étel to Arcachon, Rödel established itself as one of the largest French canning companies. The products are countless, including all sorts of vegetables (artichokes, asparagus, cardoons, celery, chicory, endives, lettuce, sorrel, etc.), fish and shellfish (shad, eels, crayfish, lobsters, lampreys, langoustines, red mullet, salmon, turbot), as well as prepared dishes (game galantines) and meats (larks, snipe, quail, pheasants, partridges, pigeons), not forgetting tripe, head cheese, sweetbreads, and pickled fruit.

The brand's reputation rests on preparing the best possible product, with cost or selling prices being secondary considerations. The company thus entered the crisis of the 1930s with 1,500 employees, but the family lost control of the business in 1934. All the Bordeaux canned food brands (Dandicolle et Gaudin, Garres, Teysonneau) had disappeared, with the notable exception of Rödel.
