1. WHAT ARE BRONCHICUM THYME LOZENGES AND WHAT ARE THEY USED FOR?

Bronchicum Thyme Lozenges are a herbal medicine for colds of the respiratory tract. For the improvement of symptoms in colds of the respiratory tract with viscous mucus, for the improvement of symptoms in acute bronchitis. If you do not feel better or even worse after 7 days, contact your doctor.

2. WHAT SHOULD YOU CONSIDER BEFORE USING BRONCHICUM THYME LOZENGES?

Bronchicum Thyme Lozenges must not be used:
  • if you are allergic to thyme or other Lamiaceae (Labiatae), birch, mugwort, celery, peppermint oil and eucalyptus oil or any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6.
  • in patients with bronchial asthma or other respiratory diseases that are associated with a pronounced hypersensitivity of the respiratory tract. The inhalation of eucalyptus oil and peppermint oil can lead to shortness of breath or trigger an asthma attack.

Warnings and precautions

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Bronchicum Thyme Lozenges. If symptoms persist for more than 7 days, if you have shortness of breath, fever, or purulent or bloody sputum, a doctor should be consulted immediately.

Children and adolescents

Children under 6 years of age should not use Bronchicum Thyme Lozenges, as they could choke on the lozenges and there are no sufficient studies for this age group.

Use of Bronchicum Thyme Lozenges together with other medicines

There are no known interactions between other medicines and Bronchicum Thyme Lozenges. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using, have recently taken/used, or plan to take/use any other medicines.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

Although widespread use of thyme as a medicine and food has not so far provided any evidence of risks during pregnancy and breast-feeding, the results of sufficient studies are not available. Therefore, Bronchicum Thyme Lozenges should not be used during pregnancy and breast-feeding. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking/using any medicine.

Driving and using machines

No special precautions are required.

Bronchicum Thyme Lozenges contain maltitol solution and glucose syrup

Please take Bronchicum Thyme Lozenges only after consulting your doctor if you are known to suffer from an intolerance to certain sugars. This medicine contains less than 1 mmol (23 mg) sodium per lozenge, i.e. it is virtually "sodium-free".

3. HOW TO USE BRONCHICUM THYME LOZENGES?
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this package leaflet or exactly as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

The recommended dose is

Adults and children aged 6 years and over suck 3 - 4 lozenges (126 mg - 168 mg thyme herb dry extract corresponding to 1008 - 1344 mg thyme herb) several times a day as needed.

Type of application

Bronchicum Thyme Lozenges should be sucked (not chewed). The application should be spread over the day.

Duration of use

The duration of use is in principle not limited, but please note the information under "Precautions".

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of Bronchicum Thyme Lozenges is too strong or too weak.

If you have used more Bronchicum Thyme Lozenges than you should

Poisoning by thyme preparations has not been reported to date and is not to be expected based on the current state of knowledge about thyme. If symptoms do occur, please consult your doctor in case of overdose.

If you forget to use Bronchicum Thyme Lozenges

Do not use twice the amount if you have forgotten the previous application.

If you have any further questions about the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

4. WHAT SIDE EFFECTS ARE POSSIBLE?

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Possible side effects

Very rarely (less than 1 in 10,000 treated persons) hypersensitivity reactions such as shortness of breath, skin rashes, hives, and swelling of the face, mouth and/or throat (Quincke's edema) may occur. Very rarely, stomach upset such as cramps, nausea, vomiting may also occur. In appropriately sensitized patients, hypersensitivity reactions (including shortness of breath) can be triggered by eucalyptus oil and peppermint oil. If you observe any of the above side effects, especially swelling of the face, mouth and/or throat, discontinue Bronchicum Thyme Lozenges and seek medical attention immediately. Bronchicum Thyme Lozenges must not be used again at the first signs of a hypersensitivity reaction.

If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. This also applies to side effects not listed in this package leaflet. You can also report side effects directly to the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices, Dept. of Pharmacovigilance, Kurt-Georg-Kiesinger-Allee 3, D-53175 Bonn, website: www.bfarm.de. By reporting side effects, you can help provide more information about the safety of this medicine.

5. HOW TO STORE BRONCHICUM THYME LOZENGES?

Keep this medicine out of the reach of children. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton and blister strip after "Use by". The expiry date refers to the last day of the month indicated.

Storage conditions

Do not store above 25°C.

6. CONTENTS OF THE PACK AND OTHER INFORMATION

What Bronchicum Thyme Lozenges contain

The active ingredient is: Thyme herb dry extract. 1 lozenge contains 42 mg dry extract from thyme herb (6-10:1), extraction solvent ethanol 70% (V/V). The other ingredients are: Gum arabic, maltitol solution, purified water, saccharin sodium 2 H2O, liquid paraffin, bleached wax, glucose syrup, highly dispersed silicon dioxide, eucalyptus oil, peppermint oil.

What Bronchicum Thyme Lozenges look like and contents of the pack

Bronchicum Thyme Lozenges are brown, round lozenges and are available in original packs of 20 lozenges.

General note

For manufacturing reasons, lozenges always have a distinguishable top and bottom. However, this has no influence on the quality and effectiveness of the medicine.
