1. WHAT IS VIRUDERMIN AND WHAT IS IT USED FOR?

Virudermin is a gel for application to the skin and is used as an astringent (Latin: adstringere = to contract) for the early treatment of herpes infections of the lip (herpes labialis) and the adjacent skin areas (herpes perioralis).

If you do not feel better or even worse after 14 days, contact your doctor.

2. WHAT DO YOU NEED TO CONSIDER BEFORE USING VIRUDERMIN?

Virudermin must not be used:

• If you are hypersensitive (allergic) to zinc sulphate or any of the other ingredients of Virudermin.

When using Virudermin with other medicines

No interactions have been reported to date.

Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using or have recently taken/used any other medicines, even if they are non-prescription medicines.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

There is no evidence of any risks during pregnancy and breast-feeding. Results of experimental studies are not available. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using any medicines.

Driving and using machines

No special precautions are required.

Important information about certain other ingredients of Virudermin

Benzalkonium chloride can cause skin irritation.

3. HOW TO USE VIRUDERMIN?

Always use Virudermin exactly as described in this leaflet. Please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Unless otherwise prescribed, apply a small amount of the gel thinly to the affected areas 3 to 4 times a day. It is important that Virudermin is used immediately at the first signs of an infection. Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of this medicine is too strong or too weak.

If you have used more Virudermin than you should

No cases of poisoning with Virudermin have been reported and are not to be expected.

4. WHAT SIDE EFFECTS ARE POSSIBLE?

No side effects have been reported to date.

If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse. This also applies to side effects not listed in this leaflet. You can also report side effects directly to the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices, Department of Pharmacovigilance, Kurt-Georg-Kiesinger-Allee 3, D-53175 Bonn, website: www.bfarm.de. By reporting side effects, you can help provide more information about the safety of this medicine.

5. HOW TO STORE VIRUDERMIN?

Keep out of reach of children. The expiry date of this pack is printed on the outside of the folding box and on the fold of the tube. Please do not use the pack after this date. After opening, Virudermin can be stored until the printed expiry date.

What Virudermin contains

The active ingredient of Virudermin is zinc sulphate 7 H2O. 1 g of gel contains 10.0 mg of zinc sulphate 7 H2O. The other ingredients are hymetellose, benzalkonium chloride and purified water.

What Virudermin looks like and contents of the pack

Virudermin is a colourless, clear gel and is available in 5 g tubes.
