What is Posterisan protect?
Posterisan protect contains a skin protection complex to relieve the symptoms of hemorrhoids. The water-repellent skin protection complex forms a protective layer over the affected anal area after application. The pain-sensitive areas are thus protected from irritation. At the same time, bowel movements are noticeably easier due to a mechanical sliding effect. This helps to protect against the recurrence of symptoms.

What does Posterisan protect contain?
Posterisan protect contains a skin protection complex of jojoba wax, yellow beeswax and cetyl stearyl isononanoate. Jojoba wax (also known as jojoba oil) nourishes, protects and smoothes the skin due to its favorable fatty acid composition. It forms a delicate lipid film on the skin without sealing it off. The moisture retention capacity is increased, the skin elasticity in the stressed anal area is improved. Natural, yellow beeswax is responsible for the water-repellent effect of the skin protection complex, while cetyl stearyl isononanoate makes the skin supple. Other ingredients are benzyl alcohol, butylhydroxytoluene, white petrolatum, purified water and wool wax.

When is Posterisan protect used?
Posterisan protect is used as needed. It is particularly useful to use before and after bowel movements. The amount to be applied depends on the size of the skin and mucous membrane areas to be treated. You can use Posterisan protect safely during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

How should you use Posterisan protect?
To apply to the external anal area, apply the ointment thinly with your finger. For application in the anal canal, the pack contains an applicator with lateral outlet openings. For easier handling, it is recommended to store the ointment at room temperature.

Using the applicator

To use, screw the applicator onto the tube and remove the cap. By pressing on the tube, the ointment is pressed into the applicator until it comes out of the side openings. Then the applicator is carefully inserted into the anus. The lubricity can be increased by applying some ointment to the applicator. By pressing the tube again, the ointment is then released into the anal canal. Sufficient distribution of the ointment is achieved by carefully turning the tube. The applicator is best cleaned after use by squeezing out some ointment at the side openings, wiping the surface with absorbent paper and putting on the cap to prevent the ointment from drying out in the applicator. If the ointment is not used for a longer period of time, the applicator should be unscrewed and cleaned with warm water. We recommend rolling up the tube from the end after each use so that the front part is always full. This makes it easier to remove the ointment. The pack of Posterisan protect with anal dilator contains a so-called anal dilator for the gradual stretching of the cramped sphincter muscle or to prevent sphincter muscle cramps, which can be used in addition to treatment with Posterisan protect.

Using the anal dilator

For better lubricity, the anal dilator is thinly coated with ointment and a 1 cm long ointment strand is also placed on the tip of the anal dilator. This makes insertion much easier and avoids additional pain. When using it, it is advisable to adopt a relaxed body position, either in a squatting position or lying on your side. The anal dilator is carefully inserted with a rotating movement as far as possible without pain. This loosens the cramp and at the same time massages the ointment into the finest cracks and folds of the anal canal. After use, please clean the anal dilator with toilet paper and warm water. Normally, the anal dilator should be used twice a day for 2 minutes each time. Over time, you can try to insert the anal dilator further and further into the anal canal.

Note

Posterisan protect can stain laundry. We therefore recommend using a laundry protector (e.g. anal pads).

How long should you use Posterisan protect?
You can use Posterisan protect as needed and for up to four weeks without interruption. Regular use of Posterisan protect can help protect against the recurrence of hemorrhoid symptoms.

When should you not use Posterisan protect?
Posterisan protect should not be used at the same time as other preparations used to treat acute symptoms such as itching, stinging, burning, weeping or pain in the anal area. The skin protection complex in Posterisan protect could otherwise possibly reduce the effect of these preparations. If you are hypersensitive to wool wax or any other ingredient of Posterisan protect, you should not use it.

What side effects can occur when using Posterisan protect?
When used as directed, side effects are only to be expected in extremely rare cases with Posterisan protect. Butylhydroxytoluene can cause localized skin irritation and irritation of the mucous membranes.

What precautions should be taken?
If condoms come into direct contact with Posterisan protect, the tear resistance is greatly impaired, so that the safety of condom use is not guaranteed.

What packs are available?
Posterisan protect is available in packs of 25 g, 50 g and 100 g ointment and as ointment with anal dilator in packs of 25 g ointment.

How and for how long can you store Posterisan protect?
The expiry date is printed on the folding box and the tube. Please do not use the ointment after this date. After opening, you can use the ointment for a period of 6 months. Please do not store Posterisan protect above 30°C.
