96 Falstaff points
Aromas of ripe strawberries with hazelnuts, blood oranges and a hint of coconut. Full-bodied with very fine and polished tannins, which shape this young red wine beautifully. Fresh and delicious aftertaste of berries, cedar wood, bark and dark chocolate. Very subtle yet powerful and energetic on the finish. Very long and intense. Very classic and cool style. It is a blend of seven vineyards, including Costa Russi and Sori Tilden.
Grape variety: Nebbiolo

Angelo Gaja is certainly the most famous Italian winery owner internationally. He has been repeatedly awarded "Man of the Year" by "Decanter" and "Wine Spectator", and no other winemaker has won the "Tre Bicchieri" of the Gambero Rosso as often as he has. Without him, Piedmont, especially the Langhe, would probably have only half as much reputation today. Angelo Gaja is a happy mix of winemaker and manager. Nobody appears in public as eloquently as he does, no one else in Italy can afford to sell their wines so expensively, but no other winery shows such great consistency in top wines. Angelo Gaja, supported by his long-time cellar master Guido Rivella, is the father of the new top wines from Piedmont. He was the first to free his wines from excessive, hard tannins, making them more accessible and giving them a refined touch. Gaja's role models were the sophisticated and internationally successful wines from Bordeaux and California. However, he never wants to miss the characteristics of Piedmont in his wines. Gaja relies on terroir. As the Gambero Rosso puts it so nicely: "Gaja is and remains the greatest."
