Dividing? Of course!
It slips away, crumbles or breaks into uneven pieces - who doesn't know the difficulties of dividing tablets? The simplest solution is the Exakt tablet divider, which quickly, precisely and easily divides the medication into equal parts without great effort. With a kitchen knife or other sharp tools, portioning is a matter of luck. Often, patients are also not aware that unevenly divided tablets can lead to under- or overdosing, even to loss of therapy. There is also the risk of injury when handling the sharp knife and the sometimes small tablets.

"Half twice a day" is the doctor's instruction. But then dividing often turns out to be more difficult than expected: With the tablet divider, on the other hand, it is child's play.

Dividing - but why actually?

"Why divide tablets at all?" some readers may ask. But at the latest when looking at very large tablets, the answer is obvious to many. And pet owners also know the difficulty of giving their four-legged friend the right dose - depending on their weight...

Reasons for dividing tablets

- Patients, including children or the elderly, have difficulty swallowing large tablets whole.
- The prescribed preparation is not available in the required dosage.
- The active ingredient dose must be continuously adjusted, for example when the medication is slowly increased or decreased.
- Due to the co-payment per pack, it can be cheaper, especially for chronically ill patients, to be prescribed fewer packs in a higher dosage and then to divide the tablets.

Make one out of two

With the Exakt tablet divider, almost all tablets are portioned in no time at all

1. Place the medication in the lower part of the device between the two converging retaining strips.
2. Tilt the tablet divider slightly so that the medication slides as far as possible into the V-shaped plastic strips.
3. Fold down the upper part of the device with slight pressure - a blade in the lid divides the tablet without great effort.
4. Now simply turn the device over until one half of the tablet falls out of the ejection shaft.
5. The second half of the tablet is well stored in the storage compartment - protected from light and safe.

Dividing allowed?
Whether a tablet is suitable for dividing depends on various factors: Depending on the active ingredient or form, portioning the medication is possible or not. For example, rapidly disintegrating tablets or water-soluble film-coated tablets are easy to divide, so-called retard tablets only to a limited extent. Soft or hard gelatine capsules, sugar-coated tablets and coated tablets, on the other hand, must not be crushed at all. This also applies to enteric-coated tablets or retarded film-coated tablets.

It is best to ask your doctor or pharmacist specifically whether the prescribed tablets may be divided and what special features, such as the light sensitivity of the active ingredients, must be observed. The package insert or medication packaging may also contain information on this - but according to current regulations, they do not have to.

Not every tablet that can be divided may be divided. It is best to ask your doctor or pharmacist whether the medication can be taken in portions - then you are on the safe side and the therapy is not endangered.
