1. What is this medicine and what is it used for?

Zinksalbe BW is a wound healing agent. This ointment is used externally to support wound healing, also for weeping or itchy wounds, for chapped skin and as a covering ointment.

2. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE USING THIS MEDICINE

This medicine must not be used if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to zinc oxide or any of the other ingredients of Zinksalbe BW. Special care must be taken when using this medicine if the symptoms described in section 1 worsen. In this case, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

When using this medicine with other medicines

Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, even if they are non-prescription medicines. Before using other external medicines (for external use), Zinksalbe BW must be completely removed (limited effect of other external medicines).

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using any medicine.

Driving and using machines

There is no experience with regard to impairment of driving ability and the ability to operate machines.

Zinksalbe BW contains cetyl stearyl alcohol and wool wax alcohols

Cetyl stearyl alcohol and wool wax alcohols can cause local skin irritation (e.g. contact dermatitis).

3. HOW TO USE THIS MEDICINE

Always use Zinksalbe BW exactly as described in this package leaflet. Please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Dosage and type of application

Unless otherwise prescribed, Zinksalbe BW is applied to the affected skin areas once to several times a day and covered with gauze. The zinc oxide contained in Zinksalbe BW can adhere to the laundry and is then difficult to remove. Therefore, cover the wound area treated with the ointment with a gauze compress, a plaster or a bandage.

Duration of use

The duration of use is in principle not limited. However, please note the information in section 2.

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of Zinksalbe BW is too strong or too weak.

If you have used more of this medicine than you should

If symptoms occur due to the higher dose, please inform your doctor. He/she can decide on any necessary measures. The side effects listed under side effects may occur more frequently.

4. WHAT SIDE EFFECTS ARE POSSIBLE?

Like all medicines, Zinksalbe BW can have side effects, although not everybody gets them.

The following frequency information is used to evaluate side effects:
Very common:	more than 1 in 10 treated persons
Common:	1 to 10 in 100 treated persons
Uncommon:	1 to 10 in 1,000 treated persons
Rare:	1 to 10 in 10,000 treated persons
Very rare:	less than 1 in 10,000 treated persons
Not known:	frequency cannot be estimated from the available data.

Possible side effects

A slight burning sensation may occur after applying Zinksalbe BW to severely inflamed skin areas. Occasionally, skin intolerance reactions may occur.

If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. This also applies to side effects not listed in this package leaflet. 5. HOW TO STORE THIS MEDICINE

General information

Keep medicines out of the reach of children. Do not use the medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the tube and the carton after "Use by". The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.

Storage conditions

Store tightly closed in the original container. Do not store above 30°C.

What this medicine contains

100 g ointment contains the active ingredient: 10 g zinc oxide. The other ingredients are: white petrolatum, wool wax alcohols, cetyl stearyl alcohol.

What the medicine looks like and contents of the pack

Zinksalbe BW 10% is available in the following pack sizes: 50 ml ointment in a tube with a carton, 100 ml ointment in a tube with a carton.
