Our tooth enamel is the hardest substance in the human body, but: It wears down over time. Chewing, brushing teeth, and acidic foods and drinks make the enamel surface rough and porous. Thanks to its slightly gel-like consistency, it adheres particularly well to the enamel and makes the surface so smooth that bacteria and discolouration can hardly adhere.
