Use/application/consumption recommendation

The individual duration of use depends on the doctor's instructions. It usually lasts 6 – 12 hours, maximum 24 hours for infants and toddlers.

Infants

if no food is given over 24 hours, a drinking quantity of 120 – 150 ml per kg/body weight. The drinking quantity should be approx. 10 ml/kg body weight per hour. The daily quantity should be limited to 6 sachets for infants.

Toddlers, school children and adults

Drink the contents of the sachet, dissolved in 200 ml of liquid, several times a day as required. Adults can drink up to 4 litres of Saltadol® spread over the day in the case of severe diarrhoea. This corresponds to a quantity of 20 sachets.

Instructions for use

One sachet contains 4.13 g of powder mixture. The contents of one sachet are dissolved in 200 ml of boiled, cooled water or tea and drunk warm or cold.

For the dietary treatment of fluid deficiency (dehydration) in diarrhoeal diseases. Saltadol® is a dietary food for special medical purposes (supplementary balanced diet). It is composed in such a way that the electrolyte and water balance can be balanced without risk. The ratio of the components of Saltadol® is precisely coordinated, has been adjusted and corresponds in reduced osmolarity to the WHO formulation for the supply of lost electrolytes.

Precautions / interactions

Patients with heart failure and high blood pressure should consult their doctor before starting dietary treatment. Patients who are receiving simultaneous therapy with cardiac glycosides should be carefully monitored for their potassium content. Avoid sugary drinks such as lemonades, cola drinks, etc. The increased sugar content promotes and prolongs diarrhoea.

Important notes

Suitable for infants, toddlers, school children and adults. Do not use for self-treatment of severe diarrhoea lasting longer than 3 days. Diabetics should only be given Saltadol® after consulting their doctor. Do not use in the case of renal excretion disorders, metabolic alkalosis, unquenchable vomiting, carbohydrate absorption disorders, impaired consciousness and shock. Do not use in the case of acute fluid deficiency due to occlusive diseases in the digestive tract. Please only use Saltadol® under medical supervision. Saltadol® is tasteless, gluten-free and lactose-free.
