Composition

100 g contain

Eucalyptus oil 15.0 g, D-Camphor 5.0 g, Levomenthol 2.5 g

Other ingredients: White petrolatum, Octyldodecanol (Ph.Eur.).

Dosage form and content

Ointment in tubes of 50 g N1 or 100 g N2

Indications

For external use to improve the condition in case of colds of the respiratory tract (such as uncomplicated runny nose, hoarseness and uncomplicated bronchial catarrh).

Contraindications

Tumarol N Balsam must not be used in case of:

• Hypersensitivity to one of the ingredients
• in infants and toddlers under 2 years of age
• in bronchial asthma and whooping cough, as well as pseudocroup and other respiratory diseases that are associated with a pronounced hypersensitivity of the respiratory tract, since inhalation can lead to constriction of the bronchial muscles
• inhalation therapy in case of acute inflammation of the respiratory tract and in case of acute pneumonia
• for external rubbing in case of skin and childhood diseases with exanthema as well as on damaged skin, e.g. in case of burns

Pregnancy and lactation

Due to insufficient studies, the medicine should not be used during pregnancy and lactation.

Interactions with other medicines

Eucalyptus oil induces the foreign substance-degrading enzyme system in the liver. The effects of other medicines can therefore be weakened and/or shortened. This cannot be ruled out in case of large-scale and/or long-term use due to absorption of larger amounts of active ingredients through the skin.

Warnings:

• Do not apply to mucous membranes (including the nose) or in the eye area.
• Do not apply to the face.
• Please wash your hands thoroughly after use.
• Tumarol N Balsam should only be used externally and for inhalation treatment.
• Levomenthol can cause laryngospasm in infants and toddlers up to 2 years of age, resulting in severe respiratory problems.

Dosage instructions

Unless otherwise prescribed, a 1-4 cm long strip of Tumarol N Balsam ointment is rubbed thoroughly into the chest and back in the morning and evening and then covered with a cloth. In addition, inhalation treatment or a facial steam bath can be carried out up to 2-3 times a day: Add 5-10 cm of balm to 1-2 l of hot water and inhale the vapours under a cloth for several minutes.

Type and duration of use

For the preparation of inhalations and for external use.

In case of symptoms that last longer than 3-5 days, in case of shortness of breath, in case of headache, in case of fever or purulent/bloody sputum or nasal discharge, a doctor must be consulted urgently.

When inhaling, it is advisable to close or cover the eyes in order to avoid possible irritation of the conjunctiva. Do not let children inhale unsupervised, as there is a risk of scalding! Care should be taken to ensure that children cannot come into contact with the rubbed-in skin areas with their hands.

Notes in case of overdose

When used as intended for external use or for inhalation, overdose symptoms are not to be expected. In case of accidental ingestion (swallowing), nausea and vomiting usually occur due to the mucous membrane-irritating properties, and diarrhoea may also occur.

Symptoms such as palpitations, feeling of heat, weakness and dry mouth, diarrhoea and fever have also occurred in rare cases in case of external use and overdose. In case of external, large-scale use, poisoning symptoms can occur, e.g. kidney damage and damage to the central nervous system (CNS), e.g. in case of camphor. Camphor-containing ointments should not be used in children with an increased risk of seizures.

Side effects

Inhalation (also after external rubbing) can cause irritation of the skin and mucous membranes as well as coughing and increased bronchial spasm. In rare cases, irritation of the respiratory tract is possible during inhalation.

The medicine should not be used after the expiry date. Tumarol N Balsam has a shelf life of 3 months after opening the container.

Tumarol N Balsam contains proven active ingredients against colds of the respiratory tract in a low-fat ointment base. The essential oils contained in Tumarol N Balsam are quickly absorbed by the skin and lead to an increase in expectoration in the respiratory tract. Breathing is made easier and the lungs are better supplied with blood. When rubbed into the chest and back, the active ingredients reach the site of the disease not only via the skin, but also via evaporation due to body heat through inhalation. Especially in case of difficulty breathing and a blocked nose, the facial steam bath or inhalation has a beneficial, expectorant and liberating effect on breathing.
