What is Lactofem Moisturising Cream and what does it contain?
Lactofem Moisturising Cream is a white to almost white, smooth cream that has been developed for use with the symptoms of vaginal dryness. Lactofem Moisturising Cream is free from hormones (e.g. oestrogens) and can therefore also be used together with hormone replacement therapy or alternately with hormone-containing vaginal creams or vaginal suppositories. Lactofem Moisturising Cream contains benzyl alcohol, cetyl palmitate, cetyl stearyl alcohol, lactic acid, sodium lactate, octyldodecanol, polysorbate 60, sorbitan monostearate and purified water. The 25 g and 50 g pack sizes contain an applicator (CE-certified) for inserting the cream into the vagina. The vaginal cream is free from fragrances and colourings.
When should you use Lactofem Moisturising Cream?
Lactofem Moisturising Cream is used to relieve and prevent symptoms of dryness in the vagina and the external intimate area (feeling of dryness, burning, itching or pain during sexual intercourse). Lactofem Moisturising Cream can also be used to make sexual intercourse easier.
How does Lactofem Moisturising Cream work?
The properties of Lactofem Moisturising Cream help to relieve symptoms of vaginal dryness:
- The high water content of the cream provides moisture to the skin in the area of the vagina and the external intimate area.
- Nourishing lipids (fats) keep the skin supple.
What you should know about the symptoms of "vaginal dryness"
The symptoms of vaginal dryness can significantly impair the quality of life of the women affected. The feeling of dryness is often accompanied by other symptoms such as itching, burning and pain in the area of the vagina, the vaginal opening and the external intimate area. In many cases, these symptoms also make sexual intercourse unpleasant or even painful. Women are particularly affected during the menopause (sometimes starting as early as the age of 40) and in the years that follow. The cause of the symptoms in these cases is a decreasing production of sex hormones (including oestrogen). Less vaginal fluid is produced in the vagina, the skin becomes thinner and more vulnerable. These are normal processes that can nevertheless result in unpleasant symptoms. Hormone deficiency, hormonal fluctuations or shifts can also lead to the symptoms of vaginal dryness after operations on the uterus or the ovaries, during pregnancy and breastfeeding as well as when taking the "pill". In addition, some metabolic diseases (e.g. diabetes), certain medications, radiation treatment for tumours and also stress can promote dryness in the internal and external intimate area.
What do you need to consider when using Lactofem Moisturising Cream?
Lactofem Moisturising Cream must not be used:
- in the case of known hypersensitivity or allergy to one of the ingredients
- in the case of a vaginal infection (e.g. vaginal fungus). Please speak to your doctor about this.
- immediately after giving birth.
- more pronounced symptoms of dryness before using Lactofem Moisturising Cream.
- persistent or recurring vaginal symptoms while using Lactofem Moisturising Cream.
- worsening vaginal symptoms while using Lactofem Moisturising Cream. You should stop using the product until the matter has been clarified.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Lactofem Moisturising Cream can also be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. For safety reasons, the applicator should not be used to insert the cream into the vagina during pregnancy (see instructions under "How do you use Lactofem Moisturising Cream?").How do you use Lactofem Moisturising Cream?
Lactofem Moisturising Cream is intended for use in the vagina and on the skin of the external intimate area. Lactofem Moisturising Cream can be used with or without an applicator. Please wash your hands before using the cream and ensure that your intimate area is clean. The cream can also be used during menstruation.
Before first use
Before using the tube for the first time, unscrew the cap and push it upside down onto the tube opening to open the membrane seal.Use without applicator
For symptoms in the vaginal opening and the external intimate area, the cream is applied and spread with a clean finger as required, even several times a day. A strip of cream approx. 0.5 cm long is sufficient for this.Use with applicator
Lactofem Moisturising Cream can be inserted into the vagina with the help of the applicator. To make insertion easier, a small amount of cream can be applied to the area of the vaginal opening. To use, please follow the instructions below
- Hold the tube opening upwards, screw the applicator onto the tube opening.
- Fill the applicator tube halfway with cream by applying light, even pressure to the tube (approx. 2.5 g of cream).
- Unscrew the applicator from the tube.
- Carefully insert the applicator as deeply as possible into the vagina. This is best done lying on your back with your legs slightly bent or standing up (as when inserting a tampon). The applicator is emptied by pressing the plunger and the cream is inserted into the vagina.
- After use, clean the applicator as follows: Press the spherical end of the applicator plunger firmly onto a solid surface. This separates the plunger from the applicator tube. Then carefully clean the plunger and applicator tube separately with warm water until there are no more traces of substance.
How long can you use Lactofem Moisturising Cream?
Lactofem Moisturising Cream can also be used over a longer period of time if it is well tolerated. If you have any further questions about use, please contact your doctor or pharmacist.
How long does Lactofem Moisturising Cream keep?
Do not use Lactofem Moisturising Cream after the expiry date stated on the tube and the folding box. The expiry date is always given after this symbol and refers to the last day of the month stated. The cream can be kept for 6 months after opening.
How should Lactofem Moisturising Cream be stored?
