Composition

Sodium alginate, sodium bicarbonate, sodium carbonate, calcium carbonate, sorbitol, vegetable magnesium stearate, hydroxypropyl cellulose, flavouring, silicon dioxide, sucralose, steviol glycosides.

Areas of application

Doppelherz aktiv Heartburn acute + protect for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux to relieve associated symptoms such as heartburn, heartburn in pregnancy, reflux oesophagitis, acid regurgitation, indigestion, nocturnal reflux symptoms, cough and inflammation of the larynx and throat.

Mechanism of action

Doppelherz aktiv Heartburn acute + protect is based on sodium alginate and carbonates. Its effectiveness can be explained by a physical mechanism of action. As soon as it comes into contact with the acidic pH conditions in the stomach, sodium alginate (a natural polymer extracted from brown algae) forms a gel. At the same time, the carbonates release carbon dioxide, which allows the gel to float and form a protective layer that acts as a physical barrier to prevent the backflow of gastric juice into the oesophagus. In addition, bicarbonate helps to reduce the acidity of the stomach. Due to its special properties, the product protects the mucous membrane of the oesophagus from attack by acids with a barrier effect. This promotes regeneration and helps to prevent the risk of recurrence of reflux oesophagitis. The formulation, which is characterised by a specific balance between sodium alginate and carbonates, promotes rapid action.

Instructions for use

Adults and children over 12 years: 2 or 4 tablets after meals and before bedtime. The tablets must be chewed thoroughly. After taking, you can rinse with water.

Warnings:

• Do not use this product after the expiry date stated on the outer carton.
• Do not take in case of severe renal insufficiency.
• Do not take if you are hypersensitive to any of the ingredients of the medical device.
• If side effects occur, you must stop treatment and contact your doctor.
• The product may interfere with the absorption of oral medicines. Please consult your doctor if you are taking other oral medicines. In any case, a time interval of 2 hours should be maintained between taking the product and taking a medicine.
• If symptoms do not improve after 7 days of treatment, please consult your doctor.
• The product may cause flatulence. Proper use of the product reduces the likelihood of this occurring.
• This product contains approximately 100 mg (4.4 mmol) of sodium and approximately 36 mg (0.9 mmol) of calcium when taken as a single dose (equivalent to 2 tablets of 1 gram each).

Please consult your doctor if you need to follow a low-salt diet, e.g. if you suffer from high blood pressure, impaired heart, kidney or liver function, or hypercalcaemia, nephrocalcinosis or recurrent calcium-containing kidney stones.

Storage

Keep this product out of the reach and sight of children. Store the product at a temperature between 8°C and 25°C in a dry place, away from light and heat sources.
