Pan do Mar Light tuna natural

Tuna loins from real bonito, also known as skipjack, from sustainable and controlled wild-caught fishing. Caught individually by coastal fishermen using traditional methods with rod and line in the eastern central Atlantic (FAO area X.a.2 / 34.I.2 – III.12: Azores and Canary Islands / coast of Senegal). Filleted by hand and preserved in its own juice and infusion.

Fishing with rod and line prevents overfishing of stocks and the unwanted bycatch of other fish species. This fishing method helps to sustainably protect fish stocks and thus preserve them for future generations. Coastal fishing in Atlantic waters avoids long transports "around the world", which have a negative impact on the energy balance and increase CO2 emissions. In addition, short transport routes help to preserve the high quality of the fish. This catch was controlled by the fishery authorities of the European Community, as well as by ICCAT (International Commission for the Conservation of the Atlantic Tuna), the Earth Island Institute (Dolphin Safe) and by sustainability NGOs.

„Pan do Mar“ (Bread of the Sea) shows an alternative on how to use marine resources not only respectfully and sustainably, but also to produce first-class products with traditional methods. The high-quality canned fish, such as the hand-caught tuna, from sustainable fishing are caught by small-scale fishermen using traditional methods and refined with ingredients from organic farming. The exceptional products are refined in the factory according to original Galician recipes, filleted by hand and filled into cans or high-quality glassware.
