The "apple" in pomegranate is recognizable by its characteristic shape. And the grenade? In a pomegranate there are dozens of these little flavor bombs, the seeds. Hence the link to the grenade, because "granum" is Latin for grain. The rock-hard exterior protects the small pomegranate seeds well. These seeds are covered with red, translucent pulp. When you halve the fruit, you come across a fibrous membrane that holds everything inside. The membrane has a sour taste and is not the tastiest part of the fruit. The peel can also be ignored. This leaves the wonderfully juicy and sweet and sour seeds. Preparation: Hold the pomegranate firmly in your hand and cut off the top. Then you can cut directly through the peel over the fibers. This way you can easily break open the fruit and remove the seeds. Pomegranates are suitable for direct consumption, in a blender or in a salad. Storage: They can be stored outside the refrigerator for a few more days.
