The Healthy Tuber from Next Door

The Ruasshamer Hof is a classic agricultural farm in Ismaning. In addition to cattle farming, the family is dedicated to arable and vegetable farming and also produces small animal and horse hay.

The potatoes are grown, harvested, and packed into paper bags with self-designed labels according to variety by farmer Franz, his wife Cornelia, their son and young farmer Bernhard, and his partner Fee.

Bavarian Sweet Potatoes

The sweet potato was discovered in America as early as 1492. Today, it is considered one of the absolute superfoods because it can store a large amount of nutrients and energy. It is indispensable in our diet. 

Although the plant prefers a much warmer climate than our native potatoes, the Ruasshamer family took on the challenge and started cultivating the Bavarian sweet potato. The painstaking manual labor is worth it: The sweet potatoes from Ruasshamer Hof are exceptionally delicious!

Local Potato Varieties

The red-skinned potato variety "Laura" is a true all-rounder! When cooked, it becomes slightly mealy on the outside and remains relatively firm on the inside. This makes the variety ideal for all dishes where the potato is fried or roasted.

The mealy variety "Lady Amarilla", on the other hand, is characterized by a high starch content and has a rather coarse texture that easily falls apart when processed. With “Lady Amarilla,” dishes like mashed potatoes or potato mash can be prepared optimally. But a hearty potato soup also succeeds perfectly with Lady Amarilla potatoes. 

The waxy potato variety "Sissi" has a firm texture and is therefore ideal for dishes where the potatoes are cut into thin slices, such as potato gratin. It retains its structure even when cooked and does not burst. A hearty stew with chorizo sausage can also be prepared from “Sissi” potatoes.
