  • 4 pcs. Hot Dog Buns
  • 2 pcs. Vine Tomatoes
  • 1 pc. yellow onion
  • 8 pcs. pickled gherkins (for garnish and relish)
  • 4 tsp. pickled jalapeño rings
  • 4 tsp. medium-hot mustard

Preparation

    Prepare a large pot with a steamer insert and steam the hot dog sausages for about 5 minutes until hot. Alternatively, the sausages can also be grilled on all sides until golden brown.

    Meanwhile, slice the tomatoes thinly and finely dice the onion. Halve or quarter half of the pickled gherkins lengthwise, and finely chop the other half for the relish.

    Briefly warm the hot dog buns (in the oven or on the grill) and slice them lengthwise. Place the hot sausages into the buns.

    Garnish the hot dogs with tomato slices and pickled gherkin strips on the sides. Evenly distribute the diced onion, jalapeño rings, and finely chopped gherkins (as a relish substitute) over them.

    Finally, drizzle a strip of mustard over the hot dogs and serve immediately. Enjoy your meal!

For the authentic Chicago feeling, you can sprinkle the buns with a little celery salt before filling.
