Ingredients

  • 600 g chicken breast fillet without skin
  • 3 cloves fresh garlic
  • 1 tbsp ground coriander
  • 1 tbsp sweet paprika powder
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano
  • 1 1/2 organic lemons (zest and juice)
  • 2 tbsp rapeseed oil
  • 2 pinches fine table salt
  • 1 pinch ground black pepper
  • 2 handfuls fresh mint pot
  • 2 handfuls fresh dill bunch
  • 1 organic cucumber (approx. 250 g)
  • 150 g Greek yogurt 10% fat

Preparation of the Skewers

    Cut the chicken breast into approximately 2 cm cubes and place in a large bowl. Peel 2 cloves of garlic and press them directly onto the meat. Add ground coriander, paprika powder, dried oregano, the zest and juice of one lemon, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix everything thoroughly so that the meat is evenly coated with the spices. Thread the meat cubes onto 4 wooden skewers and let them marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

Preparation of the Tzatziki

    Meanwhile, prepare the tzatziki. Finely chop the mint and dill. Finely grate the cucumber, lightly salt it, and let it sit for about 5–8 minutes until it releases water. In the meantime, peel the remaining garlic clove and press it into a bowl. Add the chopped herbs and Greek yogurt. Squeeze the grated cucumber firmly to remove excess water, then add it to the yogurt. Season with the juice of half a lemon and a pinch of salt, mix everything well, and chill until serving.

Frying and Serving

    After marinating, heat a pan with 2 tbsp of rapeseed oil over medium heat. Fry the chicken skewers in it for about 5–6 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the pan.

    Arrange the finished souvlaki skewers on plates and serve with the chilled tzatziki. Fresh pita bread or a Greek salad are excellent accompaniments.

Tipp: Weichen Sie die Holzspieße vor der Verwendung etwa 30 Minuten in Wasser ein, damit sie in der Pfanne oder auf dem Grill nicht verbrennen. Dazu passt hervorragend warmes Pitabrot.
