Preparation method
Melt milk and butter in a small saucepan over low heat, then remove from heat and let cool slightly. Finely grate the Gruyère cheese.
Sift the flour into a bowl. Add dry yeast, one egg, salt, the grated cheese, and the lukewarm milk-butter mixture. Knead everything into a smooth, firm dough. Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour until its volume has significantly increased.
Divide the risen dough into two equal parts and form each into a roll about 3 cm in diameter. Cut each roll into 25 equally sized pieces.
Chef's tip
For an extra savory touch, you can sprinkle the sticks with a little coarse sea salt before baking.
The sticks can be prepared in advance and stored in an airtight container for several days.
