Ingredients

  • 400 g of pork leg
  • 1 piece of lemon
  • 5 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 sprig of fresh mint
  • 2 sprigs of fresh oregano
  • 2 sprigs of fresh thyme
  • 1 pinch of ground pepper
  • 1 pinch of salt

  • 4 pieces of shashlik skewers

Preparation

    Pluck the herb leaves from the branches. Soak the wooden skewers in cold water for about 10 minutes so they don't burn on the grill.

    Cut the pork into cubes of approx. 3 cm. Mix in a bowl with the herbs, 3 tablespoons of olive oil, a pinch of salt, and freshly ground pepper. Let the marinade sit in the refrigerator for 2 hours.

Grilling & Serving

    Remove the meat from the marinade and thread evenly onto the wooden skewers. Halve the lemon.

    Place the skewers on the hot grill and grill for approx. 1.5 minutes on each side until the meat is tender and cooked through. Also place the lemon halves, cut-side down, on the grill.

    Arrange the finished souvlaki skewers on plates. Drizzle with the remaining olive oil and refine with the juice of the grilled lemons. Fresh flatbread or tzatziki pairs perfectly with this.

Tipp: Weichen Sie die Holzspieße vorab in Wasser ein, damit sie auf dem Grill nicht verbrennen. Servieren Sie die Souvlaki am besten mit frischem Tsatziki und Pitabrot.
