Preparation & Caramelizing

Peel the onions and cut them into fine rings. In a pan with a little olive oil and a pinch of salt, let them slowly caramelize over medium heat until golden brown. This takes about 10-15 minutes.

In the meantime, wash the jalapeño and cut it into thin slices. Lightly score the hot dog sausages lengthwise, but do not cut them all the way through.

Grilling & Serving

Fry the sausages on the grill or in a pan on both sides until crispy. Also briefly toast the cut surfaces of the hot dog buns.

Chef's tip

For a particularly authentic experience, use brioche hot dog buns – their slight sweetness goes wonderfully with the cream cheese.
