Bifteki Mixture
- 300 g ground beef
- 120 g feta cheese
- 50 g red onion
- 2 leaves fresh mint
- 1 egg
- 1 slice toast bread
- 5 leaves flat-leaf parsley
- 1/4 tsp lemon zest
- 1 tsp fresh oregano
- 1 pinch black pepper
- 1 pinch salt
Preparation of the Bifteki
- 1Cut the feta cheese into 6 strips, about 5 cm long.
- 2Finely chop the red onion and the fresh herbs (mint, parsley, and oregano). Soak the toast bread in a small bowl with approx. 50 ml of water.
- 3In a large bowl, thoroughly mix the ground beef with the chopped herbs, onion, soaked bread (lightly squeezed), egg, lemon zest, and salt and pepper.
- 4Divide the meat mixture into 6 equal portions. Form each portion into a flat patty, place a strip of feta in the center, and firmly enclose the cheese with the meat to form an oval roll.
- 5Grill or fry the bifteki on a medium-hot grill or in a pan for approx. 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
Tip
Serve the bifteki traditionally with tzatziki, cherry tomatoes, and fine red onion rings. For a more intense flavor, the ground beef can also be replaced with lamb.
Knuspr-Küche
Ein kleiner Spritzer Zitronensaft über die fertigen Bifteki hebt die Aromen der frischen Kräuter noch einmal hervor. Dazu passt hervorragend ein kühler griechischer Weißwein.
