Ingredients
- 4 pcs. Hot Dog Sausages
- 4 pcs. Hot Dog Buns
- 120 g Natural Cream Cheese
- 2 pcs. Yellow Onions
- 1 pc. Fresh Jalapeño
- 1 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 1 tsp Salt
For Serving
- BBQ Sauce to taste
- Mild Sauerkraut to taste
Preparation & Caramelization
- 1Peel the onions and cut them into fine rings. In a pan with a little olive oil and a pinch of salt, slowly caramelize them over medium heat until golden brown. This takes about 10-15 minutes.
- 2Meanwhile, wash the jalapeño and cut it into fine slices. Lightly score the hot dog sausages lengthwise, but do not cut all the way through.
Grilling & Serving
- 1Fry the sausages on the grill or in a pan until crispy on both sides. Briefly toast the hot dog buns on the cut sides as well.
- 2Generously spread the warm buns with cream cheese. Place the grilled sausages inside and top with the caramelized onions.
- 3Finally, garnish with jalapeño slices and drizzle with BBQ sauce to taste. If desired, add some mild sauerkraut as a typical extra.
Tip
For a particularly authentic experience, use brioche hot dog buns – their slight sweetness pairs perfectly with the cream cheese.
