Ingredients for the Chocolate
- 400 ml whole milk
- 100 g dark chocolate (min. 70% cocoa)
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 vanilla pod
- 1 pinch chili powder
- 1 tsp maple syrup
- 50 ml whipped cream
For Garnishing
- 2 small handfuls of marshmallows
- Chocolate hearts as desired
- Freeze-dried strawberries for garnishing
Preparation
- 1Heat the milk in a small saucepan together with the cinnamon, chili powder, and the seeds of the vanilla pod (as well as the scraped pod for more aroma). Bring the mixture almost to a boil, but do not let it boil.
- 2Break the dark chocolate into pieces and add to the hot milk. Melt, stirring constantly, until the chocolate is completely dissolved and the mixture has a smooth, velvety consistency. Then remove the vanilla pod.
- 3Sweeten the hot chocolate with maple syrup. Taste carefully: the spiciness of the chili should be subtly noticeable in the background, without dominating the chocolate flavor. If necessary, add another small pinch of chili. Finally, stir in the whipped cream.
- 4Pour the hot chocolate into cups and garnish generously with marshmallows, chocolate hearts, and crumbled freeze-dried strawberries. Enjoy immediately.
