Ingredients for the Pljeskavica
- 500 g ground beef
- 500 g ground pork
- 1 medium onion (finely chopped)
- 2 garlic cloves (finely chopped)
- 1 egg
- 50 g breadcrumbs
- 1 tsp sweet paprika powder
- 1/2 tsp ground cumin
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Salt
- Ground black pepper
- Gouda slices as desired (optional)

Preparation of the Meat Mixture
- 1In a large bowl, combine the ground beef and pork. Add the finely chopped onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, as well as paprika powder, cumin, salt, and pepper.
- 2Knead the mixture thoroughly with your hands. If the mixture is too dry, add a splash of water or a little oil.
- 3Form the meat mixture into patties (Pljeskavica) about 2 cm thick. If desired, you can place a slice of Gouda in the center and enclose it with meat (stuffed Pljeskavica).
Frying and Serving
- 1Preheat the grill or a pan to medium heat. When frying in a pan, add a little vegetable oil.
- 2Grill or fry the Pljeskavica for about 4–5 minutes on each side until they are well cooked through. Alternatively, they can be baked in a preheated oven at 200 °C for 15–20 minutes. Meanwhile, cut the potatoes into wedges and roast them until golden brown in a separate pan.
- 3Serve the finished Pljeskavica with the roasted potatoes and a generous dollop of Ajvar.
