Preparation method
Cut the bread into cubes of approx. 1-2 cm. For very firm bread, a serrated bread knife is recommended.
In a large bowl, combine the olive oil (or melted butter) with the finely chopped or pressed garlic, dried herbs, salt, and pepper. Add the bread cubes and mix everything well until they are evenly coated with the seasoned oil.
Preheat the oven to 180°C. Spread the seasoned bread cubes in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes, until the croutons are golden brown and crispy. Turn them once or twice during baking to ensure even browning.
Chef's tip
For a particularly rustic aroma, use a mix of different types of bread. The croutons will stay crispy for several days in an airtight container.
