Preparation method
Peel the onion and cut into fine wedges. Core the bell pepper and cut into cubes. Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a pan, add the onion wedges and sauté for approx. 2 minutes over medium heat.
Add the pressed garlic, cumin, and ground coriander and sauté for approx. 1 minute until the spices release their aroma. Then stir in the smoked paprika powder and immediately add the bell pepper cubes and diced tomatoes.
Pour about 250 ml of water over the mixture, season with salt and pepper, and simmer for approx. 10 minutes without a lid over low heat.
Chef's tip
Shakshouka is a very versatile dish. You can refine it with feta cheese as desired or add spicy chili flakes if you prefer it spicier. Make sure to cook the eggs over low heat so they poach beautifully.
